Geography of Tamerion
By: SilverKnight Date: June 10, 2013, 3:52 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Geography
Location: Western Endrya
Bordering Nations: None, surrounded by water
Terrain: Plains, leaf forests, low hils, creeks in the north.
Mountainous areas and high hills in the south. Heavily forested
in the west.
Highest Point: Mount Welles (2819 m)
Climate
Largely temperate, with heavy rains in autumn and early spring.
Snow is not uncommon in Aurelia and the Highlands, though rarely
falls in Melian and Arcia. Average temperature in summer is 19 C
across the country, with the North generally a bit more chilly
than the south.
Environment
Pollution is kept well under risk levels set by the World
Organization Office of Environment. Tamerion was the first
industrialized nation in the world and during large parts of its
18th, 19th and 20th century history the country's industry was
dependent on coal and the burning of coal for fuel, heating and
power for furnaces and industry. With the transition to more
environmentally friendly sources of energy and the mass
production of small-size hydrogen-fission engines for use in
personal vehicles, the air pollution levels have dropped
steadily.
Much of the country's electric power comes from off-shore
windmill parks, nuclear reactors operating on a combination of
uranium and thorium and hydroelectric dams and river mills.
Tamerion is a part of the Clean Energy World Trust (CEWT)
program which encourages member nations to export clean energy
to poorer countries with less developed energy infrastructure,
dependent on dirty fuels like coal, gas or oil.
The Tameronian company Ellesworth Ltd was the inventor of the
decomposable bio-plastic bags and patented it in 1998 (Patent
nr. TAM-4405991). In the following years, more and more
bio-plastic (produced primarily from sunflower oil) have been
produced to be used in more plastic products (BPCV-3). In 2012
Parliament decreed that any plastic product for sale internally
and export internationally has to be composed of at least 70%
bio-plastic to reduce world dependency of oil and be milder on
the climate. In recent years the cost of production of regular
plastic has skyrocketed as more and more oil companies switch
from fossil fuels to renewable energy and hydrogen fuel
production. The consequence of this is that nearly 100% of
plastic produced in both Tamerion and Endrya as a whole is
bio-plastic.
Resources
Tamerion is far from the richest country in the world in terms
of valuable natural resources, but common and irreplaceable
minerals such as coal, iron ore, titanium, copper, tin and
nickel are found in abundance. The country used to be heavily
forested in the past, but centuries of building and maintaining
a massive navy of wooden ships has sadly left large parts of the
country deforested. Many of the great oak forests of medieval
times were chopped down for construction materials for
ships-of-the-line and merchant ships. Most of the deforested
areas were used for agriculture and much of it still is, and the
large cornfields and paddocks of Aurelia feeds much of the
country. Fish such as cod, bass, haddock and coalfish are
abundant along the coastline and in the sovereign waters of the
country. Natural gas and oil can be found along the coast and
helped propel Tameronian might, both economically and militarily
during the 19th and 20th centuries, but is now redundant with
the advent of hydrogen-fission fuel engines and turbines.
Industry
Tamerion was the first industrialized nation in the world,
leading the Industrial Revolution in the 1740's and remained the
world's leading industry until about 1920 when Ceanada's rapidly
growing population and economic might caught up with Tamerion.
Tamerion is still one of the six council members of the
Organization of World Economy and Trade (OWET), the
world-spanning organization working to unite the world through
fair and prosperous globalized trade. OWET has over the years
expanded to include the World Bank, a multinational bank
organization who organizes finance and administer loans on
nation-level. Ceanada, Tamerion, Virginia, Sylvania, Michelon
and Sarina are the six council nations composing the leadership
of OWET and are the six largest economies in the world, measured
in GDP and average standard of living.
Tameronian industry has lately been going through a period of
modernization with the transition from electricity as production
fuel to a combination of electricity and hydrogen. This has led
to a surge in productivity, with more output per machine-hour,
but a rise in production costs when incorporating the costs of
buying and installing completely new machinery in most factories
and manufactories. This has led to both a rise in worker
salaries, but a great many have been laid off to pay off the
extra costs for the companies. What could have become a major
unemployment crisis with tens of thousands of former factory
workers flooding the labour market, was largely off-set by
skillful management by the previous government
(Socialist-Democrats/Labour/Crown-Loyalists II - Lord Summervale
II) with expanding the national rail network and initiating a
large renovation of the road net in the Highlands as well as
laying another underground tunnel to Angmark (the southern
island off the main island and fifth country in Tamerion). This
prevented the flooding of the labour market and many were later
employed as the industrial boom generated a new need for more
factories in Tamerion.
Tamerion is a large producer of chemical and electric products
for use in large-scale industry and as such is a major and
important export partner to many of the Western nations. Refined
metals from ore extracted from the Highlands and Angmark are
also a very important export product, especially to Ceanada,
Sylvania and Sarina, the leading producers of cars and motor
vehicles in the world.

Political Information
Head of State
King Edward IV and Queen Mary, monarchs of the United Kingdom of
Tamerion (of the countries Aurelia, Highlands, Arcia, Melian and
Angmark)
Head of Government
Prime Minister Marie de la Seraphiné
Legislative Instance
Parliament
Government Type
Constitutional Monarchy
(Institutionalized democracy with a representative legislative
body, with the monarch as head of state only)
Executive Power
The Prime Minister of His Majesty's Cabinet is the leader of
Tamerion's government and the effective leader of the state. The
PM and Cabinet (the common name for the government) is chosen
every four years through general election. The party (or several
parties working in a party coalition) with a functioning
majority in Parliament may declare they are forming a
government. The leader of said party must be approached by the
monarch before being given permission to form a government. This
is largely a formality, but has the purpose of separating the
parties who are willing to cooperate or capable of leading a
Cabinet, from the ones simply playing opposition and resisting
any attempt at a government forming.
Once a Cabinet has been formed the individual minister posts are
spread out among the members of the party, mostly based on
personal education and experience. There is a tradition to apply
persons with actual experience and appropriate qualifications to
minister posts to avoid dilettantes possibly harming the Cabinet
or the nation itself.
The Cabinet is responsible to Parliament and must each week
answer to questions from the Opposition parties in a special
hearing session. The Opposition can demand any minister or high
representative from a particular department to answer for any
decision, policy or statement. This is a way to bring openness
to the Cabinet's dealings and keeping the public informed. The
Prime Minister must also meet with the monarch every two weeks
for a discussion about policy, the political status in the
country and a myriad of other issues.
Legislative Power
Parliament is the legislative body in Tamerion and has
ultimately the last say in any decision and bill. Parliament is
split in the lower House of Commons and the upper House of
Peers. They were earlier two separate entities within the same
body, but after World War Two they were merged. Members of the
House of Peers are seated on benches in tiers close to the Lord
Speaker, while the Commons are seated nearer the exit of the
Parliament Chamber. The colour for the Commons is green while
the colour for the Peers are purple. There are 200 Members of
Parliament (MP) for the Commons and 180 for the Peers. MPs for
the Commons are elected every four years, while the Peers were
originally elected every eight years, but the relatively low
number of peers makes this pointless, and instead the Peers are
changed based on the political climate of their chosen
municipality based over several years.
There are seven major political parties represented in
Parliament. Each party has a political platform and message
which must be clearly projected to be allowed to form a party.
Most parties also has a clear ideological motivation which they
present to attract voters and better profile themselves. The
parties, their relative position and main issues are:
Socialist Democrats (left/centre, governmental control of
business market, egalitarianism and economic distancing from
Ceanada)
Central Liberals (centre, some governmental control of market,
repeal government monopoly on transport infrastructure
construction and maintenance, school classes based on
performance and ability)
Liberals (right, little governmental control of market,
strengthening of military and police forces, tighter bonds with
Ceanada, distancing from Endryan nations, market liberalizing,
less power to unions)
Labour (left, more power to unions, tight governmental control
of market economy, nationalize large parts of energy production,
full-day school, stronger bonds with Endryan nations)
Crown-Loyalists (centre/left, more power to the monarch, more
leading on the international scene, restore more power to Peers,
more power to the counties and municipalities)
Nationals (far right, more power to the military and police,
lesser fees on alcohol, generally populist)
Liberal Socialists (centre/left, governmental control of market,
foreign aid, more liberal immigration policy, nationalize
several banks, tax rate adjusted to income)

Royal Army of the United Kingdom
General Information
The Royal Army of Tamerion is the land warfare branch of the
Armed Services of Tamerion. The Army was officially founded in
1589 after the First War of Michelonese Succession. The
initiative to establish a national army was taken by King Arys
III, who has later been credited with spearheading the birth of
the Tameronian Armed Services. The Royal Army is tasked with the
defence of Tamerion’s sovereign territory, both the Tameronian
homeland and the various overseas territories and Crown
Protectorates which falls under Tameronian jurisdiction, as well
as the nations of the Tameronian Commonwealth. It is also
deployed on operations internationally and overseas, both in
times of war and on peace-keeping, police or other type of
high-and-low intensity operations.
The Army is managed by the Ministry of Defence, located in
Aurelia Magna, in Cabinet Palace along with the current cabinet.
The official Head of the Armed Services, and Commander of the
Royal Army is at all times the current monarch, currently King
Edward IV. The professional head of the Royal Army is the Chief
of the General Staff, currently Field Marshal Sir Gregory
Aiden-Walcott COS MTE KCG. All members of the Army swear (or
affirm) allegiance to the monarch as commander-in-chief.
The full-time element of the Royal Army is referred to as the
Regular Army and has been since the creation of the reservist
Territorial Army in 1825. The Regular Army currently consists of
around 158,700 personnel, while the Territorial Army consists of
about 69,800 part-time soldiers and officers. In terms of size
it is not the largest of the land warfare armies in the North
Ocean Defence Alliance (NODA), but rather the fourth largest,
after (in order regarding number of active personnel) Ceanada,
Sylvania and Michelon.
Organization
The Army is primarily organized in regiments, following the
Regimental Warfare System of 1599. Each regiment is composed of
at least one battalion, and often an additional which is a
Reserve (or Territorial as they are known as). Some regiments
have four or more battalions, but generally only two or three.
These regiments are again organized into brigades and further
into divisions, but they rarely operate as brigades, rather
attached into temporary brigades or task forces, or in ad-hoc
formations.
This organization system creates an unparalleled
éspirit-de-córps and each and every soldier is proud of and
respects his or her regiment and regimental history. Most of the
regiments of today's army are amalgamations of regiments of the
past, such as the Royal Highland Regiment which is an
amalgamation of four different regiments (Royal Silvercrest
Highlanders, Royal Highland Light Infantry, Royal Lowland and
the Talchester Highlanders).
The Army have a relatively complex composition and organization
due to the different origins of its various constituent parts.
It is broadly split into the Regular Army (full-time
officers/soldiers and units) and the Territorial Army
(Spare-time officers/soldiers and units). The Territorial Army
is for the most part organized in lower-numbered battalions in
Regular Army regiments, e.g. the 4th Battalion of the Royal
Aurelian Regiment is a Territorial unit where the first two
battalions are Regular Army. In war-time and general
mobilization this serves the purpose of an extra manpower pool
of decently trained troops which can be called upon to serve in
the Regular Army if the need should arise. Most regiments have
either a regional affiliation attached such as the Royal Laemon
Fusiliers, the Tamshire Regiment or an affiliation to a specific
personage such as the Princess of Aurelia's Own Royal Dragoon
Guards or the Duke of Silvercrest’s Own Regiment. These units
are often dedicated to royalty or important regional
aristocrats. Regiments with regional affiliations draw their
troops from these areas, but are not required to do so, it is
merely standard practice. Regiments dedicated to personages or
other units draw troops from the whole of the country.
The military of Tamerion is an all-volunteer force and gets the
majority of recruits from the Tamerion homeland. There are also
several relatively large minority populations of which the
Ceanadian population in Tamerion (approximately 2.6% of the
population) is the most militant and patriotic. On average there
are 30% more serving in the Armed Forces than in any native
Tameronian society of the same size. There are also a relatively
large number of foreign volunteers such as Maldives,
Westerlanders and Norheimans. Crown-Territories are territories
which fall under the direct jurisdiction of Tamerion and the
Tameronian government and as such are regarded as Tameronian
citizens. Therefore many "colonials" serve in the Tameronian
Armed Forces. Women volunteer on the same grounds as men, no
differences are made, and approximately 20% of personnel in the
Army are women.
To maintain the current manpower level in the Army there is a
recruitment target of around 18,000. The minimum age of
recruitment is 19 years, and the maximum recruitment age is 31,
though one can serve for much longer than that. When one
volunteers for the Army, one signs up to serve for a period of
minimum of four years where the first year is devoted to
training and unit integration. About half of those who volunteer
go on to serve for a longer period that the minimum requirement,
about 50% of those again make a career in the Army.
The Army is divided into a series of branches. These are the
Infantry, the Royal Artillery, the Armour Corps, the Guards, the
Airborne Forces, the Royal Corps of Engineers, the Royal Army
Air Corps, the Royal Signals Corps, the Intelligence Corps, the
Joint Special Operations Command (Special Forces), the Royal
Logistical Corps, the Royal Army Medical Branch, the Military
Police and the Royal Corps of Music.
The Army is controlled by the Ministry of Defence, but the true
administrative control lies with the General Headquarters
Command (GHQC) which is commanded by the Chief of the General
Staff. He or she is in complete control of all administrative
and fiscal responsibilities as well as commander in a formal
sense. Forming the command tier of the General Staff is the
Marshal Land Forces, the Adjutant-General and the Marshal Force
Development & Training. The Marshal Land Forces is responsible
for generating and preparing forces for current and contingency
operations as well as commanding the Army in the tactical and
strategic sense, the Adjutant-General is responsible for
developing the Army's personnel policies and supporting its
people and the Marshal Force Development & Training is
responsible for recruiting and training the Army, and developing
its capability, sustainability and doctrine. The Marshal Land
Forces is the direct commander of all field units of the Royal
Army.
Structure
The Royal Army is composed of five divisions and four commands.
None of the divisions and commands is deployable as units in
their own right, but split into smaller groups and formations.
Most regiments are organized in brigades, but again, units
rarely operate at brigade-level and often form regiment- or
battalion-sized battle groups with loaned or
brigade/division-level support units. The divisions currently in
the Royal Army order of battle are:
•
•
•
•
•
There are also a number of commands incorporating units not
traditionally found in field formation orders of battle. These
include the following:
•
•
•
•
All divisions are composed of a number of brigades or
brigade-level units (or allied equivalents). These contain
between three and five battalion sized units, between 3000 and
5000 personnel with support units and are commanded by a one
star officer, usually a brigadier general. Brigades are
organized as to be split up into between two and five
battlegroups, the primary tactical-level formation employed by
the Royal Army. These would be composed of one or more
battalions of infantry, armour or armoured reconnaissance with
support units allocated from the other units of the brigade,
including engineers, artillery, anti-tank artillery, logistics
and army aviation, as required.
The current combat brigade formations in the Royal Army are the
following:

The largest sport in Tamerion is ice hockey following years of
Ceanadian cultural influence and a dawning appreciation for
hockey by large parts of the population. As a result many ice
halls were constructed in the 70's and 80's to accommodate a
growing enthusiasm. In 1972 Tameronian hockey on professional
level were established and three leagues were established, all
under the control of the Tameronian Hockey Association. The
first seven teams were from the seven largest and most
enthusiastic hockey cities at the time. The first teams were the
Aurelia Royalists, Covington Gryphons, Kingsport Mariners,
Oldtown Phoenixes, Talchester Chevaliers, Silverlake Swans and
Rochester Bluebloods. As hockey became more popular the leagues
expanded and the Tameronian Hockey Association became the Royal
Hockey Association in 1981. The three leagues were also changed
to become Junior League (JL), National League (NL) and Princess
of Arcia League (PAL). The last is the top league and receives
the most media attention. As of now there are twenty-two teams
in the PAL, the same as the number of counties, though not every
county has a hockey team, as some counties have more than one.
The season starts in October and lasts through March. The league
playoffs are played through April and May.
