Probings

Hey yall. Im just probing for interest right now, I'm not
starting anything until Peacemans game is archived. I want to
probe for interest on a medieval style game where players
control a small kingdom and expand it across a Europe style map.
It will operate a Peacemans rules system modified for the era.
No orbats per se, easy economy, and troubling times. Let me know
your thoughts and if you would be interested. Again I will not
start anything until Peacemans game is thoroughly finished with.

More Info please
particularly
Fantasy elements (Like Elves for example, or dragons, giants,
trolls, Unicorns..)?
How Armies would function properly (like are we just pulling
numbers out of thin air to invade places, or do we still
purchase units by a certain number {Example: mailed knights-20
men plus horses-30 floins}?)
(and for that matter would units be taken prisoner and ransomed
or just executed; perhaps even released?)
Would units actually take time to traverse the map?
Your Country itself; would you need to have at least afew cities
and castles marked? (probably would be helpful)
Could certain buildings also be Purchasable/Required to make
certain types of units? (like a leather tanner to make leather
armor, and Armorer for obvious reasons, siege engineer workshop,
bowyer workshop, farms for food, etc.)?
With the resources, Would certain areas have predetermined
resources ( like say in land 1 there is timber, Furs, copper ore
and clay)?
Might be able to lend a hand in certain aspects if needed

Fantasy elements (Like Elves for example, or dragons, giants,
trolls, Unicorns..)?
Set in our world, just different landscape.

Armies are based on how many men you can levy from your
population plus mercenaries.
(and for that matter would units be taken prisoner and ransomed
or just executed; perhaps even released?)
A certain percent would be killed, a certain percent wounded,
and a certain percent captured with the chance to capture nobles
and vassals. Its all up to how the person roleplays, they could
all be executed, ransomed back, some killed some ransomed, up to
the player.
Would units actually take time to traverse the map?
Of course.
Your Country itself; would you need to have at least a few
cities and castles marked? (probably would be helpful)
Yes, each player starts with one castle and walled town/city
that must be marked and then the rest of the population would
live in villages and hamlets strewn around the provinces, just
like in the real middle ages. The latter does not have to be
marked.
Could certain buildings also be Purchasable/Required to make
certain types of units? (like a leather tanner to make leather
armor, and Armorer for obvious reasons, siege engineer workshop,
bowyer workshop, farms for food, etc.)?
Yes.
With the resources, Would certain areas have predetermined
resources ( like say in land 1 there is timber, Furs, copper ore
and clay)?
Yes, players would get to determine what their home province had
(working on a limit right now) and then I would assign resources
to unclaimed provinces.
Might be able to lend a hand in certain aspects if needed
Okie dokie.

"Armies are based on how many men you can levy from your
population plus mercenaries."
I think that answers part of my question; Are we buying
Different classes of soldiers or not?
for example, my population is.. lets say 4500; 4500/10% is 450
troops; so would I...
1. Assume I have 450 troops of various types right away, thus
not needing specialized buildings to make heavy infantry or
2 Assume I have a Max cap. of 450 troops; then in the first turn
buy Soldiers (since I believe arms and armor doesn't appear out
of thin air either) of say, 75 peasants at 110 Gold, (at set
prices of course) and start the next turn with 75 peasants... or
do we start out with certain unit types based on our Army? (like
S: Has a great mix of missile and melee cavalry; W: poor early
infantry and missile units)
And just some thoughts;
If #2 I think unit types should have a strength and weakness
(pros and cons) like Levy spearmen: S: effective against
calvary W: Missile units
"A little clockpunk and fantasy could be fun... just saying."
cut out the Automated robotic creatures and guns maybe; medieval
era hand cannons in the later ages wouldn't be a bad idea (more
to rout infantry then to injure or kill them) IMO

I have been wanting to run a medieval game for a while but I
might run a steampunk style one if i dont get enough support for
this one, but I really want this one off the ground.
Armies would work as such:
Population determines how many men you can levy and the number
of knights, etc. Ground power determines outfitting ability. A
Ground power 1 means the poor blokes dont even have good
pitchforks and shoddy bows while ground power 5 you will see
peasant levies walking out in half plate armour and chainmail
with halbers and maybe a few swords. Composition is what ever
you want but cavalry and archers would cost a small upkeep, like
$2 for archers per per turn and $8 per cavalry for arrows and
horses. Afterwards you would have to construct and hire
fletchers, bowyers, weapons makers, and armouries. You could
also import arms as well.

I would be up for playing a Carthage/Byzantium style city-state.

I was thinking about starting up either Sci-Fi or Fantasy
whichever was in higher demand. I will be starting one or the
other when Yesterday, When The War Started is Archived

Is yours actually going to be a game or interactive RP/story
telling? If its the latter then theres no reason I can't start
mine cause I have had this in the works since the third week of
TWTWS

well I am willing to stand my game down for now, however I know
DictaTorr has had a fantasy game in the works since before YWTWS
started he's just trying to iron out all the kinks
