Yeah agreed - feels good on the ball and being a lefty, it's
great to cut in. Penalties too!

This is probably one of the biggest problems with hybrids. Way
too many good Serie A CB's! :D

Replaced our loaned James with the permanent one.

Um.... yeeaah....
Played 6 games with them last night, think I only lost one....
might've been 2... Anyway. I liked all the players, though
Berardi was slightly disappointing tbh, more a case of higher
expectations than poor play of any kind, he did score a pen... I
kinda liked the way the team played as well...
BUT. Same old thing as with the last 433(5) line up. Build up
play was decent enough but midfield felt a bit narrow and
undermanned, wide men were wider than I like. In the end I knew
I'd just never be totally happy with it after my last run in the
formation so went straight into mental overdrive as I logged
off, jumped straight into FUThead this morning and the transfer
market a little later, aaaaand...
YES! Kroos, James and Guarin in 4231. Finally.

Obviously been feeling pretty at home with my B team in this set
up so it's about time I visited with some cash. Was slightly
irritating to have to resort to a 3rd Real player and not make
use of that Guarin/James link AND I wanted James at CF but
whatevs.
Oh and the CBs are just a bit er... 'S' word.
I actually came up with another version of this that looks
really mean, Modric at CCAM then Mandzukic and IF Perisic up
front and left. Just happen to be about 70k short of that.
Perhaps if I bothered trading instead of continually selling
players on a whim for a loss...

This is part of the challenge I find. Certain players are pretty
decent - when using them in a 'like' team - similar rating,
nothing overly special but decent stats. Over time they become
less effective, especially when climbing divisions.
Take Dybala for instance. At the start he was 20k+ - lots of
hype from last year & being Juve and all that. Obviously tons of
pack openings & card weight results in a cheap card now (<6k).
He has pretty good stats for a striker in a league that lacks
... 'great strikers'. For that pace/dribbling/shooting combo,
some would say he's out 'n out the best striker in Serie A.
But, he's 78 rated & this is where he slowly starts to fade,
when ... the rubber meets the road. We put him next to Tevez ...
total disappointment/failure. The 86-rated Tevez simply
outshines him at every stage - the 8-point rating difference is
incredibly evident.

LOL ... wading through through formations :). Hope this one
works for you - we have struggled with 4231 tbh.

Yeah I know what you're saying about the ratings there. Pretty
clear illustration of it with my B team, my expectation and
approach with them is quite different to the A team. There's
games where Correa, for example, shines like the sun and then
others where his lack of top quality is painfully obvious.
There's clear weaknesses in all the players when they pitch up
against certain opposition.
The A team on the other hand, I expect them to at least show
their class in every game, regardless of opposition and final
result.
Been kinda what's happening with this new group actually, in 433
and 4231, the various A team failings have been more apparently
mine. Or shoddy AI based....
Did very much enjoy the new look last night. Immediately felt
more comfortable in the 4231. Only lost a couple and had some
decent performances/results against good opposition.
It's sort of a funny formation I think. Really is based around
solid possession play, not sure it suits other approaches that
well.
I've always felt that it's one where you need exactly the right
balance of players. Because it's pretty defensive, both CDMs
need attacking qualities but then they need to complement each
other as well. I've had loads of pairings there over the years,
some have worked really well and a lot of others have been
average or severely limited. I feel like that's the crucial area
to get right. Guarin and Kroos seemed like a good pair. Will
possibly get Nainngolan in for Guarin in the not too distant
future. Like for like.
A lot depends on the CF too and that requires a certain sort of
player. Isco is really a bit too weak and not quite deadly
enough shot wise. Then again, ball control and passing are
important and getting all 4 of those qualities in a player is
pretty rare. Tevez is probably the best CF I've ever used but
those links this year....
CAM wise, James is a bit too slow but I was very happy indeed
with his class. I like to use them as inside forwards so strong
opposite foot, good shooting/dribbling, pace for the counter
attack. But they're also heavily involved in build up and
playing the CDMs in on late runs, so passing is noticible if
it's not good enough.
ST needs to be pretty all round too, or he'll let down the build
up play.
So yeah. All in all, everyone needs to be great at everything,
lol.

So I sold up.
And I built a little something to keep me going, until I decide
to spend my small (very) fortune. :D
Plays very nicely actually.. And I seem to get less agitated
with the opposition. Somehow, having a team that, on paper,
really shouldn't do very well, takes the pressure off somewhat,
and the result seems to matter less.. on a subconscious level,
at least. :D

Mulumbu's interceptions, standing tackle and short passing are
all 80+, which is just what you want from a NR holder
Shelvey's passing stats are 83 & 84, and with long shots and
shot power above 80, he is quite tasty - although with less than
desirable work rates, he is actually second choice behind
Herrera, who is surely one of the best statted NRs on the game?
Short passing 88, Ball control 87, Vision 85..... I could go on.
And then Delph - with Dribbling, Agility and Balance in the high
80s, 80 on both Shot power and Short Passing, H/H WRs and 89
stamina - is superb up and down the field. Just his strength
lets him down.
Son is just great with great underlying shooting stats, with a
5* weak foot...
And Thauvin is great on the right - already had him in my French
side.
The two Spurs FBs both have H/H WRs and Amat has L/H... so I
don't seem to be getting too exposed at the back.
Sometimes I think it is such a waste of time buying these high
ticket players, to then lose match after match...

Absolutely nail on the head there. Had every intention of going
that route full time not so long ago but just get sucked into
the A team coin spending. Mind you, I was very happy having all
my squad slots full of bronze teams on 13, I don't get that same
feeling with golds. Easy with bronzes I guess, because every one
of them can be a top class team.
You got some nice key stats there. Herrera, oddly enough
considering he's a midfielder, is waaaay down the list when
looking at total in game stats on NRs. He's 5th on the list on
ovr, behind the 4 82s, but on the the total search, he's halfway
down page 5! There's NR silvers with higher total stats...
Weird.

Think I may actually go that way myself. Early days I know with
this team... but at the standard I play, it's really hard to
tell the difference sometimes between good players and not so
good players.
Two of my favourite players on 15 (or was it 14?) were
Giaccherini and Aspas.
Both nothing special on paper, but terrific balance, agility and
ball control.
Football is not played on paper ;D
But seriously, might have a new rule of NR only for a bit.
After all I enjoy building teams, and when you spend all your
coins on one team, you only get to build, erm... one.
On 13, I really enjoyed building teams of 75 players only.
Almost to prove to myself that it actually didn't really matter
who the hell was actually in your team! A 75 rated restriction
left little to the imagination though. Going full out NR, at
least widens the net a tad more.
May do this for a while if the market is set to crash.
At least NR teams don't risk your investment.
And when you operate on coins only (no cash) you need to make a
little go a long way.
When Mulumbu feels no different to James, you know you're no
connoisseur ;D
Bit like not telling the difference between a Tesco house red
and a bottle of Screaming Eagle
...or Maybe Chateauneuf Du Pape... Screaming Eagle is maybe
more your Ronaldo/Messi :D
*and no, I am no wine connoisseur... I just know how to use
Google

Wilshere looks pretty decent too.. bit of a Cotes du Rhone
there...
Might need a NR thread me thinks... So all the connoisseurs
don't have to read this drivel... :D
