TBH i do think it is time that the foreigners rule should be
brought back albeit maybe with some slight changes. The quality
of the players being churned out is getting lower every year

Do you mean in the premiership or across the board? im all for
that but only if all national federations apply the same rules.
From a clubs perspective you dont want to be hindered in europe
as you have to play Gareth Barry instead of Yaya Toure or
someone like that and your rivals have no such problems. I do
think the national team suffers as a result of so many
foreigners in the prem but then imagine being a young player and
learning from someone like Bergkamp, surely that would only help
       your development.
Scottish football is good example of where that rule could be
useful as you see so many bog standard foreigners in our league
over the years and you think, surely a young scottish player has
to be given a chance instead. Its upto the coaches to do their
       bit as well.

It is a very good idea but the clubs would never allow it
       unfortunately

Our system is broken at grass roots level.
I think the national team suffers because we produce poor
youngsters through the grass roots system.
The youngsters we produce can't get into the first teams of
Premier clubs, because they are not good enough, and as a result
better foreign players come in. But in truth, I actually think
that the standard of a lot of those foreign players coming in
       isn't even that high.
The Premier League might be the most lucrative in the world, and
I dare say the most exciting, but it does not produce the
highest standard of football in the world. In fact I think the
standard is relatively poor. And that is reflected in how we
       perform internationally.
I still don't think the best foreign players come to England.
You look at a lot of the foreign players in the Premier League,
and they are not the best players from their country of origin.
A lot of the top, top foreign players that are here also leave
       the Premier in the end...
How many home grown players go abroad to play? I know the money
is really good here, so yes, why would they leave - but how many
foreign clubs come in for our 'top' English players...? They
just nick the few decent foreigners we do have... Fabregas,
       Ronaldo, Modric etc

Oh yeah deffo, very good point, I think if English players were
better they would be sought after more often by the foreign
clubs. Only some of the best players that England have
produced have done it in recent years (of note) Platt,
Gascoigne, Hoddle from previous era and only Mcmananam (spelling
:/) then Owen and Beckham. I defintely think its something the
top players should do, maybe thats key to some of other nations
success, their players are well travelled and have experienced
and became accustomed to many different types of football and
coaching/tactics. I think if that starts happening more often
with the top english players it will benefit the national team.

while i do agree that there is a problem with the talent
development, i dont think limiting foreign players will solve
it. if a yougster is good enough, he will get a place in the
squad, no matter what. look at bayern or dortmund, players from
academy are playing in starting 11.
recently turkish footy fed brought in this kind of limitation,
now teams are limited to 6 foreign players on the pitch. the
general consensus is that this will do more harm than good. many
teams took this to court, at least trying to get EU passport
players excluded from the rule. [/quote]

Yea but look at the likes of Guidetti at Man City now i know he
has been injured but do you think he will get the play time he
       got in Holland
