Will be good to hear your thoughts.
Not trying to sound cynical, but we know that it does not take
long for people to find flaws in a game - any game, no matter
what it is.
Today I played a game where I messaged the guy and laughed at
his constant lobbed through-ball abuse. He responded by saying
"it's better than merely running down the wing the whole time".
He was not referencing my game play as it's not how I play, but
in his opinion, his style of football was OK. His "abuse" was
"better" than "the sweat" he gets from other players. No logic
of course (IMO).
I guess we all like to think we "play football" well. For
example, do I attempt LB+Y ... of course I do as there's a place
for that. But we do know we're not constantly spamming them
hoping the AI screws up and gifts us goals. Against a different
opponent, they'd probably say I'm spamming them :D.

Na you are right to be cynical mate. Online play is full of
cunts on any game. So far though it seems as though the better
players win.
That just sums up the fifa community. No clue and no pride in
the football they play. Its like an arcade game in the sense
that - the objective is to win no matter what, regardless of the
means. The art and beauty has been stripped from the game in
exchange for cheap exploits. I just feel that pes has brought
back the magic to football games. Although I cant say for sure
until I meet the online community.
Ill post my thoughts after a day or two of playing. :)

Yeah - my cynicism means that the same would be on PES too.
Unfortunately sports games needs that human opposition - AI is
just not enough.
The one thing ... no matter what, FIFA is damn realistic! Not
talking about the way people play ... visually it is an
impressive game! Also, mechanics/physics/etc is quite impressive
the majority of the time! Sure we get the weird things
happening, but heck - same as any RL sports - we see daft things
every day. Yes - people bouncing 5 yards off one another is not
real, but when this can happen IRL, why not in a video game:

looking foward to hear how PES is, will stick to FIFA anyway but
interesting to see if they made progress in catching up

For me the funniest is when the 3 players go for the ball ending
up with 2 of them on the ground & then one from the defending
team falls over one of them .

After playing PES for pretty much pretty much 4 days straight I
feel im in a position to give a decent review. So far im
absolutely loving it! Its a superb representation of football,
from the skills and clinical finishes to the last ditch tackles
and heroic defending it really is a fulfilling game.
Gameplay
The best part of the game by far. You can forgive the lack of
effort put in to other areas when you feel how smooth and
responsive the gameplay is. The variation of touches is
excellent, everything is variable so you don't see the same
goals over and over again. The dribbling is slick and very
effective at beating a man without having to use the trick
stick. A simple, correctly timed drop of the shoulder is often
enough to create space. The good players take more touches in a
short amount of time so weaving in and out of closing defenders
can be rewarding as well as pleasing to the eye. The shooting is
very responsive and varied. From the cheeky chip over an
advancing keeper to a thunderous drive from 40 yards or even the
clinical pass in to the corner, its implemented very well. Body
shape is taken in to account for the type of shot and animation
will be pulled off. Defending can be very difficult at times but
when you are under the cosh in the dying minutes, throwing
bodies on the line to hang on to that crucial victory it can
feel almost as though you are there.
Players
Hats off to Konami they have excelled in this field. Every
player feels unique and seems to have there own personality.
Trying new players has never felt better. For example - Pogba is
a carbon copy of his actual self, it feels like you are actually
controlling Pogba with is tidy feet and driving runs with his
unique running style. Sterling is another good example, the
resemblance is striking, with quick touches and lightning
acceleration he can be deadly. Over 200 top players have a
unique true to life ID. Each player is different so people with
different playing styles favour different players. RVP is my
baby atm though, id take him over any other player, absolutely
deadly, currently has 86 goals in 44 appearances for myclub. As
arrogant as it may sound - ive mastered him ;)
Online
Pretty good even if it can take a couple of searches to get a
game. The game runs smoothly although I have heard its a bit
laggy if you are from America as the PES community is small. The
online modes are as you would expect - 11 v 11, online divisions
and myClub. There is a slight issue with some players lagging
people out but im yet to experience it myself. The community is
definitely less scabby than the fifa community. Ive had a few gg
messages and had some really great games with mutual respect
being preserved. There is a clear difference between the top
players and the average ones - I fall under that umbrella atm,
but not for long :D
Presentation
Not terrible but could be much better. The commentary is poor
and if im being fussy the graphics could be improved. The menus
are tidy and user friendly - if a little arcade
The lack of licences in the prem doesn't bother me as much as I
would have thought but I would obviously rather be playing with
licenced teams. Also there are a limited number of stadiums
although I cant imagine that being a deal breaker for anyone.

Nice review Jim. I like the "personalised player" bit - that
detail looks great. I wonder what's the total player database
like? If it's lower than the count of silver & golds in FIFA,
then that would be unfortunate.
The reason I say this ... at times after some tough UT games,
even the kid says we should play normal seasons. The catch here,
is that you generally face the same teams over & over again. You
want to try the higher-rated players out (in Barca / Bayern /
Real / PSG / City / etc), you will inevitably face one of
possibly 10-12 teams. Even if you go for 4.5* teams, you end up
facing the same dozen-odd teams there too. It all becomes a
little boring & tedious. Not a show-stopper though.
I think the major issue for me would be this one - "PES
community is small" - especially this side of the world. As I've
previously mentioned, even finding opponents in the latter
stages of the Gold Cup on FIFA, is a problem here. With the
smaller community, finding an opponent could be a real issue &
probably is a deal-breaker.

Yea the personalised player part is quality. Even strikers make
different types of runs depending on their attacking prowess.
You can really like a player you never thought would be on your
hit list, for example my friends favourite player on the game is
Hamsik and to be fair he uses him to devastating effect.
I think the overall database is quite big in fairness, ill have
to check the numbers out. The facing the same teams in seasons
doesn't seem to be an issue. instead of needing 9 points for
promotion etc you need to obtain (say) 1000 points. If you play
with PSG/Real Madrid etc you will get 300 points for a win. A
win with Liverpool gets 415 and a win with my team Birmingham
city will get you 830 points (lol we are terrible). Ive faced a
lot of different teams and not too many of the big hitters.
Shame about the small community although I would have thought
you would be able to play people in japan etc. I thought the
game was quite big there? Maybe im wrong.

That's really interesting re: promotion. Do like that approach!
Always appreciate the aspect when people think out the box like
that.
You're right - it should be popular in the eastern Asian
countries. Not sure what the server config/setup will be & how
distance would affect lag, etc.
FIFA ... it's a constant roller-coaster ride mate! The worst is
the fact that the connection dictates your experience. Not to
sound arrogant, but playing co-op with the kid over the various
UT's (easily over 3-3.5k games) ... we're actually pretty good
at it. I have no doubt that the 2 brains is normally better
anyway, but given the number of games we know how to play
together. Thus, when we concede goal to noobs sprinting with the
Ibarbo & Sau's, or the 100th LB+Y attempt, showing with no
talent whatsoever ... it grates me!
Yesterday, even winning against these people, was SO boring. I
think we could double our goal scoring tally at times, if we had
to be clinical/noobish. Call it show-boating or whatever, but
when we're 3 goals up, I enter the "long shot competition" as my
brain just does not want to score another simple one-on-one.
