Opinion so far
From the reviews ive seen the general feeling so far is that
fifa pretty much feels the same, with many fans disappointed
with the lack of real concerns addressed. People have been very
impressed with the improved graphics and the variety of new
stadiums etc
PES has made up a lot of ground in a short space of time and has
generally received good reviews. The game still isn't as
polished as one might hope a next gen game to be but it is still
early doors and Konami are taking fan feedback seriously. This
is touted as the closest battle between PES and Fifa in many
years.
Personally speaking, based on the little I have seen, I am
looking forward to PES as it seems like you need a football
brain to succeed. Its not just; one two, run down the line, whip
it in. Also the agility of players looks like you can beat a man
quickly and easily with a correctly timed drop of the shoulder.
The finishing in PES has always required more skill and there
seems to be a variety of different finishes. I feel like I know
how Fifa will be as it hasn't really changed for years. My
feeling is that it is aimed at a much broader/younger audience.
Plus the momentum hasn't been addressed and that is by far the
most frustrating part of Fifa, it really does spoil a good game.
What are you guys thinking?

Apparently the video I used for fifa was sped up. Here is
another one, its not the best but between the two you can gauge
what it is like. We will probably have better videos in the next
couple of days anyway

good thread! Difficult decision. Even if PES is better, I still
can remember the bad online experiences with it (not working
etc.)

from what i hv seen so far, gamescom videos, fifa is not much
different to what we have today (apart from cosmetic changes,
corner flag etc) and also the ping pong passing was there . pes
on the other hand, seems like the best pes for years, the
passing lines, the player runs etc look quite nice, let alone
they will have their UT ... i will deffo try the demo for pes
...
but fifa , has the turkish league now ??? so i am confused...

I agree that this will be a difficult decision, especially as
fifa comes out 8 weeks before PES :o. As for connection issues,
I don't remember it being too bad for me the last time I had PES
(2009 on PS3) I do remember finding a match wasn't as straight
forward as you would expect though, with all the different
lobbies etc. That must have been addressed by now?
I see your dilemma otu, fifa have almost made it impossible for
you to not get it. For me though, I think all the joy has gone
from fifa, the bad outweighs the good now. I don't turn on a
football game to get beat by scrappy, easy goals. You are not
just battling your opponent you are also battling the
momentum/intermittently poor AI. You shouldn't feel genuine
anger and injustice when playing a game. PES never once screwed
me over.

cannot remember which PES it was but online experience was very
bumpy for me at that time (and also for some friends). I might
buy FIFA anyway, play it and if I don't like it sell it again.
Only a small loss.
FUT is where my addiction lies.....that is the major problem. If
I only played H2H it is more an easy call.
SO what about PES answer on FUT? How does it work?

this doesn't sound too good:
3. Use a Weird Looking Formation
4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 are realistic and well-balanced
formations. However, they rarely work for the online world. This
is due to the “exploitation” of the game engine, where teams
with players who are fast, or players who are great passer, will
control the match. As a result, team formations will usually
look weird, funny and unrealistic, but these formations work,
because they bring out the strengths of their team. Playing a
‘normal’ formation will be ineffective as online players are
able to exploit the weaknesses of these formations easily with
the players they have. Thus, be daring and try out an
unrealistic formation, a formation with just 2 midfielders, or 5
strikers etc. Slider options can also be set to extreme values,
such as 0, or 20. That is how most online players play, and that
is how we have to play to match them.

4. Defence First Approach
Some teams go by the saying that Attack is the best form of
Defence. Unfortunately, that is not true for PES Master League
Online, certainly not if our team is new and made up of default
or average players. We can attack all we want, control 80%
possession, take 15 shots on goal, and never come close to
scoring if our opponent is a seasoned player with strong
defenders. Once we lose the ball, a swift counter attack in the
form of a single through ball will cause us to concede a goal,
which may be game over for us. A defensive formation is thus
crucial to staying in a game against a top opponent. Play 5
defenders if required, and add one or two holding midfielders.
Set Player Support to low. Use strikers to run back and defend.
Do everything required to keep the defence tight, and go for the
counter attack when possible. This is a useful strategy, until
we obtain sufficient funds to purchase top players and play
attractive football.
I think My Club is a revamped version of Master League online.
The finer details are yet to be worked out but the general idea
is that you can either work your way up by playing games etc or
you can just buy the players you want with real money. You can
earn points to spend on My Club in all game modes and even
training modes. I think it is meant to be a better value for
money version of UT
"The general principle is that you will be able to buy
the players that you want. We want to make sure that you get
value for your money. The exact final mechanic is still being
tuned... But the idea is, yeah, if you want to just buy Ronaldo,
one way or the other you will be able to do that and you will be
happy with what you spend your money on."
As bad as those reviews you posted of Master League
online are, I wouldn't judge just yet. This was on old gen and
was the first attempt with the fox engine (the entire game had
fairly poor reviews). This year they have taken customer
feedback very seriously and with the increased capabilities of
next gen plus the year they have taken out to develop the game I
think most of this will be addressed. Hopefully anyway. Only
time will tell
