The Gold Cup Challenge - A journey Through All The Formations

Decided yesterday that my ongoing Fifa challenge for this year
would be to win the Champions Shield or Gold Cup as I still
insist on calling it, using every single formation. To make
things more challenging, I must use players from 3 different
Leagues in every team, and will try to use every league
containing a gold player along the way. Will also get lots of
the cheap IF's involved as well.
I don't expect to manage to do it with every formation by the
end of FUT14, but I'll give it a go.
As I keep a record of each of my trophy winning sides on
FUThead, I know that before tonight I have won it with 4312,
451(2), 433(4) and 442(2). Tonight I have won it with 3412 so
I'm up to 5 out of 23 formation complete. ;D
A couple of the earlier winning teams don't meet the 3 league
hybrid criteria but I'm allowed to bend my own rules I think!

Enjoying this at the moment, played last night with my 3421 and
a new 343 team. Started off terrible, a 5-1 defeat and also got
beat 6-2 a few games later (despite having 19 shots for and 9
against, Eto'o, grrr), were also some high scoring wins with
both teams, but finally hit good form with the 3421, winning
2-0, 3-0 and 1-0 to get to the final.
The 1-0 semi final win was against a team with Glenn Johnson and
Clichy as centre backs and every other pacey BPL player you can
think of with 3 subs being Aubamayang, Ibarbo and Walcott, Eto'o
up front, Walker right back, all with pace chem cards. He was
high pressuring as well to make it more fun. After 45 minutes,
and his 125th lob ball my keeper came out to clear but some how
Boateng slide tackled by himself and got sent off to make it
even harder. Lampard won it though after 48 minutes with a great
shot from the edge of the box. Sweet victory.
The Boateng red card meant I had to play a single match with the
343 to clear him for the final. Aubamayang, Esswein and Kuba in
a 4321 greeted me. Total destruction followed and he rage quit
at 3-0 down and his predictable style being dealt with by IF
Bonucci, IF Ranocchia and Ogbonna.
Didn't get to play the final though so hopefully tonight I don't
start as slowly as the last few days.

All sorts of weird things were happening last night. First match
lost the final 2-0 with my 3421 side. Chance after chance
missed, but the weird refereeing was the worst thing. First of
all IF Destro got booked for having a shot and then a defender
run into him and fell over when he was in his shooting motion.
How is that a yellow? But worse was the penalty that made it
2-0. There was a loose ball in the box, Badstuber got to it
first and the attacker to the side knocked into him and fell
over. Penalty. HOW? I didn't even press anything. Needless to
say the replay cancelled itself.
Second match with the 343 I managed to lose 7-6! A complete
nonsense match where defenders from both sides acted like
walking potato's.
Switched back to the 3421 and a Totti hattrick won the first
match before a pre half time rage quit. The next two match were
easy wins, and so onto another final.
It was the usual BPL side, except they all had gold attribute
cards on them as well. Imagine Cech with +10 on everything, and
that's exactly what he played like. Managed to go 1-0 up when a
half cleared corner was lobbed in by Aaron Lennon. Then the BS
began. My players were non responsive, running off randomly on
the numerous lob through balls, and just refusing to jump when
crosses were put in. Obviously this being Fifa, a ludicrous
deflection fell to Willian at a stupid angle in the 90th minute
and he equalised with my keeper diving out the way of the ball.
Another goal where my defenders were uncontrollable followed and
then as is customary in these sort of stupid matches, I get lots
of late chances and hit the post twice in the last 5 minutes.
Typical.
Still, really like playing with this 3421 team so it's not all
bad that I didn't win.
