Glad -- seems like you're one of the few ones on here who seem
to get the new physics/mechanics of the game... care to share
some tips?
Most of my opponents are very experienced when I play seasons.
Must be the matchmaking? (Currently have an 83 rated squad and
level 87 on EASFC) Anyway, it just amazes me how most of the
people I get matched up against are so fluid in this game. I
mean, the dribbling, passing, they have spot on. not sure what
I'm doing wrong. The headers from crosses, corners.. and goals
from finesse shots I understand. They're definitely too
effective and OP. We all know that. But just even the momentum
from switching between players... moving with the ball... I
feel that I don't have any control. I do use precision
dribbling.. used it ever since but still don't understand how I
keep losing the ball even with Di Natale and El Shaarawy.
I was at division 6, been relegated to 7.. and now barely
surviving 7. I was really really close to just giving up on
this year's fifa, but really want to keep playing to see if I
can get better. We all have been playing Fifa for a while and I
just can't accept that I suddenly forgot how to play. haha.
I, too, need help. So any tips on dribbling.. ball control...
tactics.. formation... I'm all ears...
BTW, lost another match in seasons from a header... Muriel over
Dante and Thiago Silva. Oh well.

Personally..... I like it
Clunky and clumsy at times, but at least skill moves are not
rinsed and repeated (so far)
Just play it for fun and dont take it seriously, no matter the
play style of my opponents.
Probably the only negative that springs to mind is the dominance
of golds. Silvers feel lesser players this time out.

not sure if I really can help you NDP but I can give it a shot
;)
Defending
For me the AI messes up the moment I am in control. I play 41212
so mostly I gain control of teh CDM to close down gaps. I let
the CB's do their job. Good thing about the current mechanics
is that CB's with high defense stats are all usable. Did post
some of my teams earlier with Maicon (FCPorto) and Mexes
(Milan), not the fastest but they sure know how to defend.
I don't use the contain button that much anymore as the moment
a lob ball is played and you gain control they do a step
forward. Leaving a gap behind them. If you don't use it (or time
it better) you will see that you defenders will be nicely in
place.
If I have control of the CB or RB/LB, I just follow and make
sure it is hard to pass. Tackling I do when I am certain that I
have a big chance to win the ball. Sliding tackles can be very
effective too.
Passing
If you first control the ball and than start to pass it takes a
lot of time. Big chance that you opponent is breathing in your
neck. I already push the pass button before receiving the ball.
You get a more flowing attack.
Attack
I cross but also play through the middle. Depending on your
opponents formation. I adjust my style towards the formation.
442 (1) with two CDM's sitting in front of the defense is harder
to break down through the middle. 442 is less impossible. This
year you really have to think better how to break down the
opponent. Part of is also the way they play of course.
Sprinting
I am not doing that much sprinting, unless I have a clear line.
I keep passing around trying to find a gap. Sprinting means less
ball control and more chances of losing it.
Ball control
Players can be very effective on low pace, placing teh ball
sideway, skill moves are easier to perform. Heel to heel flick
are still very effective.
Shooting
Not changed much other than that the ball has to be better
placed before the player. Otherwise it will go wide or high a
lot.
Try playing single games, less mechanics abuse. More fun.
Still, the game messes up regularly. Especially defending in the
box...so just clear it. No risk.
As for chem styles: mention it before. The moment I did put
sentinel chem styles on my defenders I conceeded less header
goals. May be it is in my head but it works ;D

Nice one Glad ... agree with pretty much all what you've said.
For me with defending, it's always been about running defensive
lines & due to playing co-op so much, I feel more exposed when
not being able to tell the kid where to run, etc. So yes - the
defensive AI is still atrocious - at this stage of the game we
should expect more. Then again I've never used contain/2nd
defender bit so it could be my fault.
Like you Glad I always try sprint back with a midfielder towards
the winger before switching to the fullback. I do seem to block
a few crosses that way, if my opponent takes his time to get a
cross in. Most people are quite poor tactically, so they
generally try stop/cutback before going down the line again -
just too predictable.
I hardly ever try clear first time if an attacker is nearby. If
not, always control and run a few yards back to my own goal.
From there look for the open player. If I'm close to the line
with a defender I will control waiting for him to knock it out -
take the throw-in/goal kick and regroup. Dribbling with a CB is
looking for trouble - hence I always try control and take it
away from the attacker.
From the outset you know how your opponent is going to play.
Again, spot on Glad with those first passes just to get him
scrambling from player to player. I find the first 20-odd
minutes of a game like this to be crucial. I try slow it down,
take heaps more passes and try infuriate the guy. If I manage to
get a goal in then, I know I have a decent chance of winning the
game because, as we all know, a frustrated player gets more
p!ssed off as the game goes on.
Overall, the biggest problem is high pressure/loss of stamina
(lack thereof). If EA had to kill the stamina - JUST LIKE NORMAL
FIFA - it would make for better football. Play Seasons like you
play UT and if the game goes to ET your players are all in the
red!
Damn ... some of this sounds obvious after I wrote it so
apologies if its so obvious.
---------------------------------------------------------
Now ... the only one bit where I'm not convinced on, is the chem
style cards. Maybe on defenders you feel more confident, but
like you say Glad that could just be psychological. Bought a
Manoel with a Sentinel and haven't really noticed a difference.
Reus/Sam were great wingers BEFORE we applied sniper
(shooting/dribbling) cards to them. Hazard has been amazing,
still "basic". I would really re-consider applying those 3/3
chem style cards to player who have high ratings in those key
stats - dribbling & pace.

Don't see the chemstyle influance either.
Annoying evening all together...lost FOUR!!!! finals in a row
tonight, first 2 lag bull**** acting up, third and fourth time
was so much crap I couldn't believe it, lost both last minute
with 2-1, he had only max 3 shots on goal..
I wouldn't mind if I lost because he made good goals but at
least 3 out of 4 were total BS
the two goals from the last final.
nice cross and finish....

his last minute winner, pushing the defender off the ball, no
foul, and some crap after that

I'm not getting better, been fooling around a bit with tactics
but it still doesn't feel right. I used to be great in and
around the box but I can't seem to get that part right

How about that, played an enjoyable game against someone, both
had passing above 85%, shots were even, good football and even
some skill moves so in the end really annoying we could only
score from bad fifa mechanics, I had two lb+y crosses from my
rcm to my LW on the counter, he pushed my OP defender like a
small child to the ground for an easy finish.

I might love this year's FIFA, if it weren't 'cause I haven't
been able to finish a single offline or online match. 4-5 games
played, all got to the loading screen after the match and
rewarded me with a Disconnect. 2 offline games registered in my
record as victories, but didn't gave ne coins nor let me advance
in the tournament or check on manager tasks (still not able to
finish them because of this).
My lone online match was a lag ridden fest which I ended up
winning 3-0 and, again, disconnected after the match with no
coins, a loss and DNF penalty.
Fantastic job, EA. This is the most bug ridden game I've tried
since I got a PS3... :-\

apparently i am not the only one struggling, its a bit relief
seeing most us being in the same boat as most of you guys are
outstanding fifa players. i liked the game in the beginning, but
it did not take too long b4 people started to abuse the
weaknesses of the game.
have hopes for the patch, but also think that game will be more
or less like this generally, 84 rated CB not passing to the next
or being bullied by 1.75 ST and lose the ball etc etc ... of
course we can find a way to play, ie clear whenever you get the
ball in defence, or get 2 strong wingers & go down the flank and
cross ... but that is not what i want, i want to play as i see
fit or as i like ...
dont know if that is too difficult to find the ultimate balance
in the game, we were complaining about people passing between
back 4 and now we get this dodgy defences, we complained about
pace, and now there is new dribbling mechanism where a slight
direction change causes losing momentum etc ...
i am confused ...

whatever EA does it will always fail. Simple because the game
will never be perfect. As long as us guys want to see it as a
SIM and the 14 years old as an arcade game, we will have our
GRMBLLLL moments.
Every FIFA has his good and bad things. With FIFA12 everybody
complaint about finesse shots, FIFA13 it was all about lob
passes and pace abuse, FIFA14 it is about OP headers. And I can
make a long list if I want to.
We have played FIFA13 for a year, this game is different and it
will take time to get used to it. I can remember me complaining
last year about long shots that were flying in (even from
Ramires >:(), pace abuse and conceeding goals from corners (and
preferable in the 90th minute which sometimes took as long as
one regular half). Handicap was another thing that was on the
radarscreen a lot. Or the red card syndrom. So in all fairness
this game is not worse than last year, think that it has become
slightly better. And even more realistic.....watch some RL footy
and you will see some crazy shit going on....

The game is growing on me, but still annoying if someone is more
dangerous when hitting the ball long upfield then play a good
passing game. In and around the box I;m still very bad.
did some trading back and forth from my main and trading
account, when on console with one of those, trades can be made,
so thats my problem solved :D Hope I have enough coins to buy
those bronze IF's this week
Flipping hell, lost the sixth final in row, on penalty's and he
missed the first 2...
