U18 schoolboys are well down the IFA priorities and a friendly
against Australia even more so. If he had missed an U19
international were we can invoke the clause that he needs to be
released from his club for international duty and he didn't
actually show up/play I would be worried.
When the U18 squad list was 1st released he was the only one
starting for a IL 1st 11 on a regular basis, so its no surprise
that he was allowed to play for Cliftonville instead of this
meaningless friendly.
Nothing to worry about ATM (I think!!!!)

Would be a good move for him, feel of home with Marshall, Kelly,
Briggs and Forbes all from underage set up all currently at West
Ham.

If he doesn't want to play for us then he is no loss whatsoever.

At least he hasn't wasted an underage jersey, worst of luck to
him. Cheerio.

Nothing has been decided yet, this is becoming quite common in
the some of the age groups, we had an u15 (i think) squad last
year which played a few games in a tournament and the following
week 3 of the players were playing for the ROI in friendly
games.

As RaveDave says this is becoming a more regular occurrence
amongst our under-age players from a nationalist background,
playing for both countries until they have to make a final
decision. He still has a decision to make about where his
international future lies and before anybody gets critical about
the mere fact he is 'choosing' whom he wants to play for and if
its not us then 'f**k him', or if he's actually considering
switching he's not fully committed. I don't think anybody who
posts on here is from a a nationalist background and hence its
difficult for us to understand the dynamics involved (I used to
work in West Belfast and through my job knew Mark Sykes and 2 of
our current U21 squad - Criky Conn and Barry Baggely, so I have
some insight into this). Niall McGinn was/is a RoI fan and I
don't think anybody could question his commitment.
Unfortunately that's the way players who are from nationalist
backgrounds think, effectively under current FIFA guidelines
they're all dual-nationals and this is going to keep on coming
up. Telling them to f**k-off (which I know nobody has said
....... yet!), is not going to help the situation much. If he
stays great, if he switches, we move on.
