       Local Football Restart

Feels like a strange subject to kick off the NIFL section on the
new forum, but it looks like competitive senior football won't
have long to wait before fans can attend games, beginning with
       the Irish Cup.
  HTML https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53515177
It doesn't look like any of the other finals taking place before
then, like the Mid Ulster Shield Final on Tuesday at Holm Park,
will be able to accommodate spectators - the process is being
tested at the Irish Cup Final.
Interestingly, my local GAA club are back in action tonight,
advertising no gate fee and urging a big crowd to turn up...

Bangor are playing St James's Swifts tomorrow and spectators are
allowed. Saw something about 500 people being allowed at the
Irish Cup semis. The gap between the seats is so big in the new
stands at Windsor that you could probably have a few thousand
comfortably. The problem is probably with access and toilets
       etc.

You’d imagine most IL capacities could deal with social
distancing most of the time. It’s the facilities where the
       issues will lie.

Irish League not restarting till 12th October? Seems a bit far
away? But Bryson's challenge could throw the whole thing to pot
anyway? Is that about the gist of it?!

The paper that shall not be named or hyperlinked is reporting
this morning that a pay per view system is being considered for
       the Irish League's return.
The league's marketing has never been great, so I can't see fan
engagement being too high unless the price is really low, which
wouldn't return much revenue for the clubs (still better than
       nothing though).

If the cost is higher than the £12 it costs to get into matches
then very few will go for it. Will also need some sort of set up
for season ticket holders to get their sides home games without
       having to pay extra.
The league of Ireland seems to have a good system set up where
you can watch all the games for a set fee

The LOI's was 55 euro all-in from the start for the season, or 5
euro individually (like a day-pass). Any Irish league version
would need to be priced lower than that really.
I'm sure clubs who keep records and contact details of season
ticket holders could set up and distribute codes for "free
access", not sure how many do that though.
Tbh, I don't see it happening. The cost to set it up and
administer mightn't be worth it, especially when the timeframe
is unknown. Clubs would be better setting up their own free live
streams and getting advertising revenue from temporary
billboards on a match by match basis etc.

Yeah I like heading along to an IL match for some football in
the flesh. Not sure outside the hardcore (who may be able to
get into the matches if its a home match) how popular the IL
will prove as a TV product if people have to pay for it.
There's been hundreds of people attending amateur football,
rugby + GAA matches. I hope the authorities don't demand a
stricter standard from IL clubs. Although Dungannon GAA's
       antics wont have helped.

Ulster Rugby are letting 600 into the first home game of the
season, so hopefully the football will be something the same.

So the IFA has confirmed that all football below "elite" level
has been stopped for four weeks. This is fair enough IMO, as
these players will be training/playing on a Saturday with
teammates and opposition players from wherever, then going into
work on Monday morning and mixing with colleagues.
However, how on earth can the Irish League be considered
"elite," never mind the weemin's equivalent? Sure, for some IPL
players this is their professional employment, but for the vast
       majority is is not.
I can understand fully professional teams being under the
umbrella of "elite" as they play and train with their colleagues
and this is their full-time job, but surely not the part-timers?
The same applies to rugby and GAA. Only Ulster should be
considered as elite (which I think is the case?), and no GAA
team on the planet should be considered elite.
