If someone had said even 4 or 5 years ago that the NI SPOTY
would be a footballer, most people would have gone "Wow! -
Wasn't expecting that!"
If they had then added that it would be a woman, you'd have said
they were on drugs! lol
Anyhow, thoroughly well deserved. 8)

away to Luxembourg and Latvia.

One newcomer, Ellie Mason, pilfered from the Gibraltar national
side. She plays in the Championship for Lewes, so we may have
Rebecca McKenna to thank for having a word.
Without Hutton, Furness and Magill the squad looks a bit thin in
places.... midfield and forwards. Also, Demi Vance is listed as
"unattached". Hope she lands a new contract in England or
Scotland.

Laura Rafferty and Kelsie Burrows have now pulled out of the
Luxembourg and Latvia matches, Kelsie for "personal
circumstances". I saw Laura Rafferty score a very well-taken
goal for Southampton against Lewes on Sunday, so hope it's just
a minor knock rather than can't be arsed. Ciara Watling was an
unused sub. Rebecca McKenna was her usual combative self and won
player of the match. Ellie Mason looked composed on the ball,
and strong coming forward. Decent crowd of over 1,000 and a few
Northern Ireland shirts visible.
The Luxembourg and Latvia matches may be meaningless within the
group, but as the only NI senior victory in 2022 (men or women)
was back in February, we could do with a lift.

Midfielder Rachel Furness has left Women's Super League side
Liverpool by mutual consent.
The Northern Ireland international, 34, spent three seasons at
the club after joining from Reading in 2019, scoring 19 goals in
64 appearances.
Furness was vice-captain at Liverpool, helping the club win
promotion to the WSL in 2022.
BBC Sport understands she is set to join Championship side
Bristol City.
"It's always tough when you lose senior players. She's a
fantastic person and has been a great servant for the football
club and we're going to miss her," said Liverpool coach Matt
Beard.
"There were a lot of clubs who were interested. There was a role
here for her, but at the end of the day the opportunity arose
for her to probably get regular football and I think she went
down the path that was best for her."
Sunderland-born Furness, who is Northern Ireland's record
goalscorer with 38 goals in 85 games, stepped away from
international duty in August but emphasised she has not retired.
