An £8m Nursing Home is to be built on the site of Ards FC's
former ground - I guess the old folk of the area may approve.
Speaking of which, has anyone heard from a certain Mr. Rowley
       lately? ;)

Ards Football Club remains committed to securing a new home in
       Newtownards.
In recent months, we have been in consultation with Ards and
North Down Borough Council with the aim of returning the Club to
       its hometown.
Club Chairman Warren Patton said: “We hope to sign a 125-year
lease on a six-acre plot of council land near the Portaferry
       Road.
“On this land, we plan to build a modern facility fit for senior
football. Our architects have drawn up exciting plans that I am
looking forward to sharing with our fans in due course.
“We believe Ards Football Club’s return to Newtownards will
provide the area with a welcome boost. We are a community club
that incorporates a vibrant youth Academy and a disability
       football section.
“Our aim is to move back to Newtownards before our club’s 125th
anniversary in 2025. We would like to thank the Council for
their support regarding this important issue.”
The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Trevor Cummings,
said: “The Council is supportive of Ards Football Club in their
plans to develop a new stadium in Newtownards. The Club had
asked the Council to consider the land at the Floodgates on the
Portaferry Road so we undertook some early studies on the
feasibility of the site for the Club’s requirements and they
believe that it can meet their needs.
“The funding available for local stadium facilities through the
Department for Communities (DfC) SRS Programme would allow Ards
FC to take a major step forward in realising their dream of
having modern, safe and attractive facilities for the club and
their many fans. The Council supports the Club’s calls for the
DfC to progress with the roll out of this critical funding for
local clubs, which has the potential to make such a significant
difference in local communities across Northern Ireland.
“I hope that the Club will soon be in a position to progress its
plans. Council will continue to work with the Committee to help
       bring them to fruition.”
Ards Football Club is asking you to Join The Journey and support
       this important venture.

ARDS FOOTBALL CLUB SIGN LAND LEASE
Ards Football Club is delighted to confirm it has signed a
long-term lease on six acres of the Floodgates land on the
       Portaferry Road in Newtownards.
The club plans to build a new football ground that is capable of
hosting NIFL Premiership fixtures. The proposed 2,000-capacity
stadium will include two seated stands, changing rooms,
       floodlights and a car park.
Ards Football Club chairman Warren Patton said: "We're delighted
that we have reached an agreement on the Floodgates land.
"I would like to thank Council Chief Executive Stephen Reid for
his diligence during this process. I'd also like to thank the
Councillors and our local MLAs for their support.
"This agreement is a massive boost for our football club and the
entire Ards area, as at long last we have land to call our own
in Newtownards. This is a big step forward on our journey home.
"We will now begin the process of securing the funding necessary
to build a new stadium. To do this, we will work to identify new
partners who can help us on the next stage of our journey.”
The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Karen Douglas
commented: “The Council has given a lease to Ards Football Club
which represents another milestone in the club’s quest to
       develop a new football stadium.
“The club’s ambitious proposals will be an investment that will
benefit the Borough and encourage more people to get involved in
sport. The Council welcomes this latest development and wishes
the club well as it now endeavours to secure funding in order
that the plans may be realised.”

That would explain it. The pitch is worn out.
