I think they've stood still or gone backwards since Shiels left.
Agree, but tbf, it's a bit like the Mens' team falling
away after losing top players post-2016 i.e. since the Womens
Euro's in 2022, we've lost the "spine" of the team - Hutton,
Nelson, Callaghan, Furness (for a bit, at least), with Oxtoby
not appearing to rate Demi Vance any more. Meaning we now have a
predominantly new, young team to replace them
And Poland are a "proper" team, unlike a few women's teams we've
faced recently. But watching last night (til I turned off after
the 4th goal went in), it seemed to me that this team seriously
lacks conviction i.e. the minute something goes wrong, they fall
apart.
And that reflects a lack of Leadership which, in the absence of
those previous senior players, has to come from Oxtoby.
And for all that she talks a good game, the more I see of her,
the more convinced I am that she just doesn't have it.
agree 100% about Oxtoby, she waffles the usual
boardroom coaching jargon when interviewed but it's usually the
same old outcome, nothing personal against the girl but from
what I see I just don't think she's any good, the players just
seem lost when they concede and the play is so slow and tepid. I
think we've some good players who are being badly coached, I
think she needs to beat Bosnia convincingly to try and claw a
bit of respectability back.

One noticeable difference between Shiels and Oxtnby is that
Shiels was very demonstrative on the touchline. He almost
coached his players through matches, even though there were some
experienced players in that team.
Oxtoby has a much less experienced team but she is hardly ever
vocal during matches. It feels like her mantra is that the
players should be able to work the matches out themselves? But
maybe they need more instruction?
Looking at the highlights, it also didn't surprise me that
Jackie Burns was culpable in one of the goals. She's a good
shot-stopper but she scares the life out of me when the ball is
at her feet!

Final match in Nations League tonight away to
Bosnia-Herzegovina. On BBC iPlayer. KO 18.00. No NI based
players in starting eleven.

I see Oxtoby has kept faith with the keeper, brave decision, is
Burns the best we have?

1-1 after 30 minutes. Magill scored a nice goal. But then we
conceded a horrendous equaliser with our defender (Mason, I
think) failing to make the most basic challenge which left the
Bosnian forward free to slot the ball home. It actually looked
like she pulled out of making a challenge?!

The other two goalkeeps on the bench are both called Smith and
aged 16 and 18. In the previos match against Bosnia Herzegovina
the keepers on the bench were Harvey Clifford and Rachael
Norney.
Yep, pulled out - I think she was worried about arriving
late and getting a Red card for denying a goalscoring opprtunity
etc, which tbf, she would have been.
Anyhow, game finished 1-1. From what I saw, once they'd settled
in, NI were the better team in the first half and really ought
to have gone in a goal up, but for the error above.
Second half, however, was very mediocre (both teams) and just
petered out. Oxtoby made 2 subs at H-T, plus another couple mid
way through, but none made any difference that I could see.
Tbf, it's a very young, inexperienced team, but they seem to me
to lack conviction, confidence and leadership. And if Oxtoby
continues to switch her team around, incl ignoring one or two
stalwarts, then she can have no excuse - it's up to her to
provide leadership.
