300 Years Too Long

Las Vegas, Nevada. Sin City; the city that never sleeps, and
much to Aman's disdain, the location of this year's Council
meeting. Having to leave his quite estate in southern Washington
was bad enough, but now he was going to have to mingle with
other kindred, not to mention the millions of mortals who flock
to Las Vegas.
The Council meeting was being held at Caesars Palace on the
strip, in an unmarked room designed specifically for those like
himself. Normally he skips these meetings, but his presence was
all but demanded by the fellow council members (they know better
than to actually demand anything of the Ancient). Alas, Aman
made his presence known and discussed matters brought before the
council. Territory, creation rights, and many other topics were
discussed over the several days that they had. Needless to say,
Aman was relieved when the meetings were over.
Thankful to be out of the room after the last meeting, Aman
decided that mingling amongst mortals may actually be better. As
soon as he stepped out onto the strip however, he realized he
was wrong. Dressed in a casual suit and tie, Aman walked down
the strip for a ways. It was easy for him to ensure that mortals
didn't approach him, so he somewhat enjoyed his stroll. He
stopped to gaze upon the Bellagio fountains, and leaned against
the rails as he watched the water show. He happened to glance
down the rail, and had to do a double take at what….no...who he
saw. It was her.
Aman was struck with shock, but quickly moved through the crowd
to where he saw her. When he arrived at the spot, she was gone.
Almost in a panic, he searched the surrounding area, even
pushing people out of the way. But he could no longer see her.
The woman was the only thing that made him truly happy, the
woman whom he hadn't seen in 300 years...gone again.

In a tiny one bedroom apartment off of Sunset Rd in Los Vegas
was a lump of blankets curled up on a small bed that took up
nearly half of the minuscule room. A loud groan left the mass
before it unfurled revealing a woman with messy brown hair as
she stretched to welcome the afternoon. It felt magical to not
wake up to an angry alarm that demanded she get ready to leave
for work. Today was one of the rare days off she had from her
job at a local diner near the strip.
While she would have loved to stay home and read her latest
book, her friends insisted that they would go to the strip
tonight and enjoy the city for once. Being the weak woman she
was, she caved and agreed to join them. Lilly rolled onto her
side and grabbed her phone off of her bedside table and flinched
as the light nearly blinded her when it lit up. She struggled to
turn the brightness off as quickly as she could before the
numbers told her she had another four hours to get ready and
head out. She put her phone back down and stretched again as she
laid in bed another few minutes. Finally, she forced herself out
of bed and headed to the small bathroom, what few garments she
had been wearing were discarded to the floor as she shed them.
After a nice relaxing shower, the young woman finally got out
and dried off before her routine of fixing her hair and makeup.
She went a with a little more than she usually did since it was
a girls night. Before long she was dressed in a pair of leggings
and a light long sleeve shirt. Some jewelry and a beanie
accenting her outfit before. After slipping on some heeled
boots, she was finally ready. She took her headphones out before
plugging them into her phone before putting on an audiobook. Her
current book of choice? Frankenstein of course. Once she was set
and ready she headed out and walked to the strip.
She texted her friends telling them to meet her at the Bellagio
fountains before leaning on the rail and watched the fountain as
it danced before her. After a short time, she felt a tap on her
and she turned around quickly to be greeted by three very
overdress women. They looked like they were going to perform at
a strip club rather than go out for the night. "Hey! Let's get
going! First stop is the Jewel!" one of the women said before
grabbing Lilly's wrist and pulling the girl along. She didn't
notice the man in a suit that was shoving himself through the
crowd. If she had she might have hurried along quicker.
The music was far too loud when they did finally get into the
Jewel and Lilly found herself holding her ears rather than
enjoying herself. After over two hours of this and her friends
chatting up strangers, she finally decided to step outside to
have a smoke. She considered it a nasty habit and rarely partook
but every now and then it felt all too necessary.

Aman was obviously on edge when he returned to his private room
in Caesar's Palace. The resort, along with several others, were
owned by another kindred and all of them were outfitted for
long-term stay for vampires. His attache, Maria, knew something
had happened since he wasn't his normal, somber self. Maria was
a distant member of Aman's lineage (what was left of it), and
has been in his service for about 130 years now. Maria, along
with a few other younger vampires served the Ancient dutifully
and were rewarded with luxury and security - two popular
commodities vampire's seek in this ever-changing world.
"Is there anything I may do, Mr. Aman?" Maria asked with
concern. Of his servants, Maria may truly be the only one who
was close to him in any way. "No..no..well, yes! You remember
the woman I told you about, yes?" Aman almost shouted at the
woman. In Monaco, Aman has a very luxurious estate that he
considers his true home. Housed within the estate is an art
room, full of paintings that should hang in a museum, but also
home to creations of his own all depicting the same woman. "I do
Mr. Aman." Maria responded curiously. "I saw her. She's back. I
need to find her." He blurted out. "She was at the Bellagio
fountains an hour ago. Track her down." He commanded before he
disappeared into his bedroom.
Maria immediately took out her phone when he left the living
area and started making phone calls. She was incredibly
connected, and knew exactly who to call. She was just thankful
that the Las Vegas strip had cameras everywhere.

After finishing her cigarette, Lilly forced herself to go back
inside of the club to find her friends. Unfortunately, they were
already drinking heavily, and all but one had their arms wrapped
around a man's arm. The last of the group was on the prowel to
find a man to go home with as well. "Lilly! Have any luck
snagging a man?" She asked a little too excitedly. "Didn't
really come to hook up with a guy..." Lilly said with a heavy
sigh. "ohhhhh, well! we can find you a pretty woman then! I
don't judge!" The woman continued not seeming to understand how
someone could go to a club and not hook up with someone. Another
heavy breath left the brunette as she shook her head. She
suddenly could not remember the reason she had agreed to come
with the other women.
"I think I am going to call it an early night..." She told her
friend getting a pout and complaints from the woman. If she got
home now, she would still have the rest of the night to read, if
she was lucky she could even finish her book! Excitement filled
her as she made her mind up. She refused to waste her only night
off out in such a loud place not enjoying herself. Without
arguing farther with the woman Lilly headed out of the club and
started to head home. She found a few street performers and
attractions distracting and would pause her crusade home to
watch. It wasn't until she was finally off the strip and walking
down the streets on her own that a weird feeling came over her.
It felt like someone was watching her, following her even. She
turned her head sharply every few yards checking to see if
someone was behind her but saw nothing each time. The paranoia
kept getting worse and worse until she finally got to her
apartment and quickly locked herself inside with a deep sigh of
relief. Her stomach decided to demand food right at that moment
with a loud growl. She checked the lock just to make sure she
had locked the door before heading into the little kitchen and
putting a bowl of ramen into the microwave before she headed
into her bedroom to change back into her pajamas. She was soon
sitting on her couch eating her ramen and reading her book. She
did this until the early hours of the morning before turning in
for the night. She did have work in the morning.
The following afternoon was far different than the relaxing one
the had the day before. Instead of waking up on her own she was
startled awake by the blaring alarm on her phone that demanded
her to get up and get ready for the night ahead. A deep groan
left Lilly before she rolled herself out of bed and started her
afternoon off with a cup of hot coffee before she changed into
her uniform and put her makeup on. Soon, after having a quick
pop tart breakfast, she was walking to work listening to the
same audiobook she was listening to the night before. While she
was on her way to work she got the same feeling that she was
being followed as the night before. It was unsettling, to say
the least.
She was soon distracted by her phone going off as her friends
complained about her skipping out early the night before. She
racked her brain for some kind of excuse that would appease
them. 'I started to feel sick so I went home. Feeling better
today.' she texted them lamely getting skeptical texts back.
Thankfully she was soon at work and put her personal belonging
into her employee locker and pushed away all of her personal
issues and got into her work mindset. She was soon waiting
tables and going about her usual tasks of the graveyard shift.

It didn’t take long for Maria to find her target and begin
having her followed. Tracking the girl’s movements wasn’t
difficult, and Maria was able to get quite a bit of information
on her. Besides her address, routes to work, and pictures, she
was able to also get financial records and various other
documents that were haphazardly stored online. After only
roughly 24 hours, Maria was armed with plenty of information to
give to Aman.
The ancient vampire sat at a desk in his private room,
meticulously studying the information Maria had brought him. His
attache had been very thorough, and what Aman was seeing before
him led him to believe that it had to be her; his flower. There
are no records of this woman, Lilly, going back further than 3
years, and an experienced eye could see than most of her legal
documents were fakes. Most important to Aman, however, were the
photos; there was no denying it was her. He smiled as he gazed
longingly at the photos as he relished in the memory of her
presence, her touch, and her love. He couldn’t wait any longer;
he had to see her.
Aman instructed Maria to call for his driver, and the vampire
was picked up outside of the resort. A short trip later, he was
standing outside a relatively nice diner. Wearing a simple dark
blue suit with no tie, Aman entered the establishment and chose
a seat that seemed to be in Lilly’s section. He looked out of
place for sure, but he carried and composed himself well so as
not to seem strange. Like most of the other patrons, he paid
some attention to his smartphone as he waited.

It was a relatively slow night in the diner as Lilly whisked
around the booths and tables making sure everyone in her section
was well taken care of and even taking the tables of her lazier
colleges. "Hey, Lilly, you wanna trade tables? I have to meet
tall dark and handsome over there!" One of the women begged.
"Heck no! He looks like he could be loaded I am not missing out
on a good tip because you want to meet a guy..." Lilly said
shaking her head getting a complaining groan. "But I haven't
been doing well tonight at all though!" She continued. "Well,
you shouldn't have passed off your tables to me. The only way to
make money is to actually work Kathleen," she told the woman
before going up to the well-dressed gentlemen.
"Good evening sir! My name is Lilly, and I will be taking care
of you this evening!" She said in a chipper happy tone as the
placed a menu on the table for the man. "Do you know what you
would like to drink?" She asked pleasantly as she pulled out her
server book and clicked her pen open as she gently placed it
against the paper. She couldn't shake this strange feeling that
she knew the man now that she was close to him. Was he someone
from her past? It was a feeling she had never experienced
before. She felt like she should know his name and even the
story of his life and yet she could recall nothing of the sort
as she looked at the man.
She kept her warring emotions in check as she continued to coyly
smile at the man as if there was nothing wrong in the slightest.
Maybe she would get lucky, and he would tell her his name. Maybe
it would trigger her own memories? She had to mentally scold
herself as she was quite clearly getting ahead of herself. Her
greatest desire in life was to remember though so you couldn't
really blame her.

Aman lifted his eyes from his phone slightly as Lilly
approached. He could already smell her, and it was the same as
it had been before. If his heart could beat, it would be racing
right then. When Lilly approached and introduced herself, Aman
placed his phone on the table and looked up at his long lost
love. How many times has he been through this now? He couldn't
remember exactly, but he was too enraptured right now to be
upset about anything.
Aman opened his mouth to speak, but words escaped him for just a
moment as he gazed into her beautiful eyes for the first time in
300 years. “Um, yes..a coffee please.” He said with a somewhat
deep voice that had just a hint of an unknown accent.

The sense of familiarity only grew when the stranger spoke to
her wanting coffee. The sound of his voice sent a chill up her
spine in all the right ways, but she had to control herself.
Besides, he was far to handsome to be interested in a woman he
just met who worked at a diner. "Right away," she managed to say
after a moment of just staring at the man. She quickly excused
herself to the back and leaned against the wall that hid her
just out of view of the patrons. "You okay?" Asked Kathleen with
a raised eyebrow at her. "Yeah... I'm... I'm fine..." She said
shaking her head realizing just how silly she was acting.
She pushed herself off of the wall and headed to the station
that held the coffee machine and made the requested beverage
before she returned out into the main area of the dinner and
returned to the table placing the coffee in front of the
mysterious man. "Would you like to order something or do you
need more time?" She asked. All of her focus on the man before
her. She had other tables to tend to, but for some reason, none
of that mattered at the moment.

When Lilly left the table, Aman couldn’t help but take in the
beauty of her form.He remembered her body always being exquisit,
but it had been so long now that he felt as if he were seeing it
for the first time again. The way her hips swayed almost
hypnotized him until she disappeared around a corner. The
vampire shook the cobwebs out of his head as regained his
bearings and a smile fixed upon his face.
When she returned, Aman held her gaze for just a moment as she
placed the coffee before him and spoke. “No..I’m not
particularly hungry. This warm cup should be fine, along with
some conversation perhaps..” He said to her in his attractive
voice. The place was slow, maybe she would talk more with him?
It was worth a shot to Aman. After all, he knew how this worked
with her. He wouldn’t be able to use his force of will with her,
nor would he want to.

Lilly felt her cheeks flush a little when the request for
conversation over a meal came up. It wasn't unusual for men and
sometimes even women to ask for her attention and she usually
refused but something about the man made her want to sit and
talk with him all evening. "I... um... let me check on my other
tables first..." She finally said after being stunned silent for
several moments. She quickly hurried to each table, getting what
they requested of her and making sure they were all settled.
After a good fifteen minutes, she finally returned to the
handsome man's table and sat down across from him.
'What am I doing?!' she mentally questioned as she looked at the
man across from her. She felt so out of place yet had the
feeling that she was right where she needed to be. It was the
strangest confliction she had faced in her life, at least what
she could remember of it. "So... um... may I ask your name?" She
asked feeling more nervous by the second. Of course, from around
the dividing wall the two other women that were on duty at the
moment were staring at her. Kathleen, giving her a death glare
as if Lilly was stealing her man, and Robin, who was one of the
girls who had begged her to go clubbing with her the night
before and was giving her an encouraging thumbs up when she
looked over.
