Very Important Announcement

[shadow=maroon,left]Very important announcement regarding our
Exile server[/shadow]
Most of you probably already noticed that our server has been
offline since sometime Saturday morning. A few of our players
asked what was wrong already in the forums so some of you might
have already have an idea of what happened if you've ready those
posts but I still want to make an official announcement to fully
explain what happened with our server this morning.
When you rent a virtual server (like exile) from a provider, you
pay a monthly fee and you then get access to a web based control
panel where you can stop or start the server, set up your
passwords, etc. When you pay per month, you basically pay for 30
days of access to that control panel. At the end of the 30 days
they send an e-mail with an invoice telling you that you need to
pay again to renew your service. If you don't pay within a
certain amount of time your server is suspended, if you still
dont pay it is then terminated.
Well at the end of this months billing period, they never sent
me an invoice letting me know it was time to pay again. My first
notification was the server being suspended. Which honestly
isn't a big deal. The second the server went down, i began the
payment process through paypal and the server was brought back
up within an hour or so. The problem happened about 12 or so
hours later when they decided to terminate the server anyway
even though the invoice had been paid and it was only the first
day past when payment was due.
When they terminate the server they delete all files, database,
passwords, information, everything. It becomes a blank server
again ready for someone else to rent. So 12 hours after I paid
over $80 they deleted all of our stuff. When I sent them a
support ticket about it, they simply opened a new blank server
on a new IP and acted like that was supposed to be ok. To keep a
long story short, I basically told them to shove the new server
up their ass and give me my money back. I paid for the
continuation of our current server, not a new one. They still
dont want to refund my money so I have disputes filed thru
paypal and it's been a complete pain in the ass.
This is the important part I want you guys to read. This is the
part the affects you guys the most. If you remember our old post
a while ago that announced that we were going to switch to a new
provider? Well we did already rent the server with that provider
back when we made the announcement. So we have another server
waiting, it just needs to be set up and have the mods
re-installed. I was also able to get into the old database and
export everyones data so [color=red]no one will lose their base
or progress when we move. The worst part of all of this now is
that we will have a day or two of downtime while we get the
server set up with the new provider.
I appreciate your patience and support while we work through
this. We will have the new server up and running as soon as
possible.[/color]

[*]The database, game files, and server mods are set and ready
to be uploaded to the new server.
[*]Currently we are waiting for a support ticket to be answered
so we can resolve a small issue with the command line.
[*]Once the ticket is answered we will begin uploading the mods.
[*]Once that is done, we will update the database and open the
server.
Again, I want to apologize for the downtime. My goal was to make
the switch to the new provider as seemless as possible but
because
of the old provider accidentally terminating our server we are
forced to make the switch before we were ready and now we are
working
to get it done as quickly as possible. We appreciate your
patience and understanding through this transition.

If everything goes well, server will be ready tomorrow afternoon
- evening.
Today my ticket was answered and the command line on our control
panel was fixed
and Exile was re-installed fresh onto the server. We wiped the
current database so
we could upload our own. Tomorrow morning we will work on the
files and if everything
goes well the server will be open by tomorrow afternoon.

THE WAIT IS OVER!!

[shadow=red,left]OUR SERVER IS UP AND FULLY RESTORED!![/shadow]
Our server with the new provider is now open and fully restored.
Everyone's bases and progress has been
transferred over successfully so you will pick up exactly where
you left off on our old server. All of our mods,
AI missions and patrols are in and running smoothly. The wait is
finally over!
