Pope Francis Hails Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI as great
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Retired Pope Benedict XVI is a
perfect example of how intellectual knowledge and scientific
curiosity do not lead a person further from God, but can
strengthen their love for God and for his human creatures, Pope
Francis said.
Retired Pope Benedict XVI exchanges the sign of peace with
cardinals during the beatification Mass of Blessed Paul VI
celebrated by Pope Francis in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican
Oct. 19. (CNS/Paul Haring)
"Benedict XVI was a great pope," he said: "Great for the power
and penetration of his intellect, great for his considerable
contribution to theology, great for his love for the church and
for human beings, great for his virtues and his religiosity."
Pope Francis praised his predecessor Oct. 27 at a meeting of
the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. The academicians invited
Pope Francis to unveil a bronze bust of Pope Benedict at the
academy's headquarters in the Vatican Gardens.
Maybe this should be in the Catholic discussion forum but this
is really interesting and I agree with Pope Francis. Pope
Emeritus Benedict XVI was really a great pope and contributed
immensely to theology. Its about time he gets the recognition he
deserves :)

Papa Francis is spot on in his praise of Pope Emeritus Benedict
XV!, a bigger theologian than Reitzinger is hard to find.
What a Pope he was, but ey what a Pope we got now.
I really pray that Pope Francis has the visdom and humility to
seek advise from the Pope Emeritus once in a while and this
article shows that he has.
May God allways be graceful to our Holy Fathers whoever sits in
the Holy See.
Thanks for sharing Wandile, It made me smile to read this:)

With all the difficulties and inconsistencies throughout the
ages in each of the three traditional churches, my greatest
reverence always goes to those who fall back on the early
fathers for consultation.
I am ashamed to say that I haven't read much of HH Benedict
XVI's works.
. . . maybe when I catch up on the rest of my reading.
