Participation in the local parish as a catechumen

LOL - I see that the Greek Orthodox church I'm visiting is no
different than other churches I've been to, in that if you
happen to mention to someone that you have a talent for _____
(fill in the blank), word will get around and you will then be
recruited for something within the church ;D. (And, YES, one
should want to use their talents for the Lord!)
We had a special liturgy for Thanksgiving this week; the
attendance was small, and we only had 2 choir members. Someone
(who knows I sing) suggested I go and help out the other two
folks who were singing, but I didn't think it was my place since
I have yet to join the church and right now I'm sort of
"unofficially" a catechumen. I found it neat that I was
encouraged to join in with the choir, but just thought I should
run that by Father first. Maybe what a catechumen is allow to
do/not do, as far as participation in a local parish varies from
       church to church . . .don't know.
