There were a certain number of Russians who emigrated to China,
so this is to be expected. However, did the article say that
there are at present no Chinese Orthodox priests in mainland
China? I am not sure about Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has a large Roman Catholic population.

There are two R. Catholic Churches in mainland China: The
Patriotic Church and the underground Church. I suspect that the
Patriotic Church cannot preach against artificial birth control.
