Creating and dropping into topics or scenes already in progress,
and DM'd scenes
By: mitsuki Date: June 5, 2013, 7:22 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Alright there have been a few instances of confusion and
complications from the dropping into topics, post order,
creating topics, or dropping into DM'd scenes. So to clear up
any confusion for now and future students of O'raion here are a
few general guidelines.
Closed Topics:
1) If you wish to have a scene that is private, meaning you
don't want univited people dropping into the scene, you must
create a new topic. Give it a title, tag people you wish to see
in the scene in the topic, give it a location in the proper sub
board. For example:
"A quiet thought on the breeze. [closed, Sayomi and Kazuya,
mountain top, evening]"
Open Topics:
2) If you wish to make an open scene you have 2 options.
a) You can post in an already set up location. Without the
ability to mark these open or closed you are allowing your scene
to be dropped in on by anyone who wishes too. These topics are
things like "School yard" or "mountain top".
b) You can create a new topic on a board and mark it open,
so that other students know that they are allowed to drop into
said topics. For example:
"Out for some fun on the beach [Open, Lya, beach shore,
afternoon]
Post order:
3) Post order is important for all scenes. When more than 2
people are in a scene it keeps things from getting confused.
Every scene should follow a post order. IN scenes with multiple
people no few characters should run away with a scene. This
means everyone must be allowed to post once before anyone posts
a second time.
Say for example there is a scene with admin2, lya, Sayomi, and
kazuya. In this case an acceptable order would be:
Admin 2 -> Lya -> Sayomi -> Kazuya -> Admin 2 -> Lya -> Sayomi
-> Kazuya
An unacceptable order would be:
Admin 2 -> Lya -> Kazuya -> Sayomi -> Lya -> kazuya -> Lya ->
Kazuya -> Lya -> Kazuya -> Admin 2 -> Sayomi
~There are 2 exceptions to this standard rule:
a) One of the characters in a scene gives permission to skip
their turn. See abandoned hospital page 8 for example of
this...where admin 2 said skip their turn for a period of time
to allow dialogue to develop.
b) A scene involving many characters....with one character
disappearing for a significant amount of time. In this case you
MUST ask the admins for permission to possibly do this. They
will discuss and decide if this is allowed.
DM'd scenes or Mission scenes:
4) DM'd scenes: If an admin, or on occasion a senior member,
begins a scene where they begin to weave a story for a character
in a scene, these scenes must be respected for the story that is
taking place. Whoever is DMing that scene is allowed to decide
that someone cannot enter a scene once it is far enough
underway. If you have a strong desire to "drop into" a scene
like this the better way to go about it is to message the one
running the scene and ask for permission. This is the case even
if it is an open topic or an open location. For example if
there is a scene being DM'd (A monster fight, a spirit
interaction, ect) in the abandoned town and it is a few pages
in, then you should ask. If you drop into a scene without
asking the person running the scene is allowed to decided that
you may not take part. If the DM is not an Admin, it should be
cleared with an admin.
5) Missions: On occassion an Admin or teacher will start a
mission for class credit. The only people that should be
involved in those missions are the students signed up and the
students that might be involved from another method. For
example in the silver city "Arrival and Exploration" topic.
Lya, Hiru, and Garfield were on the mission with vincent, while
Kenro and Naito had been kidnapped. If you decide to "drop in"
to a mission topic, it should be cleared with the admins before
you are given the go ahead. You shouldn't drop in without
permission.
A few things to note:
6) If a post location such as mansion yard...has been quiet for
a long time, a week or more, or has a solid ending to the prior
scene, then it may be used as a new open scene.
7) If you drop into an open scene you must fall in to the post
order. for example if a group of three walked into a scene
where there are already 2 characters...the new three may not go
back and forth between the three of them without giving the
initial 2 the chance to respond.
8 ) TIMELINES! It is okay for your characters to post in
multiple places at once, but you must be careful of timelines.
a)Your character may not be in 2 places at once. For
example if you have 2 scenes going in a "O'raion day" they
shouldn't both be evening. One morning, one evening is totally
okay though. This is O'raion time not RL time.
b)If your character gets wrapped up in something that
doesn't have a solid end time, for example you are kidnapped,
you shouldn't be posting in other places until you have escaped
or been rescued.
c) If you have two scenes running simultaneously, you may
not use information from the scene that occurs in the later
scene in the earlier timed scene. This is information your
character would not have had at this time.
If anything is unclear or you have questions feel free to ask
here. I would appreciate it if you would let me know you read
and understood this. I will likely put a copy of this topic in
the rules as well.

Thank you for reading and letting me know it was understood.
This will hopefully just keep things running smoother without
running into situations that might get on peoples nerves.
To those that are still going to read this: PLEASE COMMENT SO
THAT I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN READ.
