Sweet Sacrifice [10/30, evening, private]
By: Mika Sasaki Date: September 24, 2012, 5:10 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Mika walked slowly up the mountain trail until she reached her
favorite spot. A small rock formation looking out over the
island, with enough room for her and possibly another to sit
comfortably. She leaned against the rocks and watched the sun
start it's path to disappear behind the horizon. She had wanted
to come up here, a quiet place for her to think. She was glad
to be staying with Kaya and was at least starting to be able to
have a stable footing on life again. She glanced down at the
beach with a quick bitter glance before her eyes found the
horizon again. She closed them for a moment, letting herself
feel the wind as it rustled her wings, and pushed wisps of hair
behind her shoulder. At least it was peaceful up here.

For just a moment, it feels as if the wind has picked up,
because it's doing more than displacing small pieces. It feels
like fingers combing through it. Investigation yields that it is
more than wind. Hunter stood beside her silently, running his
fingers through her hair.
He looked down at her, his hand tracing her jaw. "It's good to
see that you came from hiding. What has put that bitterness in
your eyes, little angel?" He asked quietly. He waited for an
invitation to sit. He didn't assume his welcome. He wasn't sure
if she might outright refuse his company.

Mika's eyes opened to find Hunter standing before her. Hey eyes
softened seeing him. She shifted slightly making sure there was
enough room for him, before patting the spot next to her
lightly. "I was planning on coming back to the real world.
I....just needed some time before I could face anything." She
sighed lightly, however a soft smile had crept across her lips
at his touch.
She looked down at the beach for a moment before looking back at
Hunter. Hunter being there physically in front of her was still
almost mystifying. She sighed lightly in response to the
question. "It's nothing much I guess." She rubbed her temple
lightly. "Just thinking about what has changed since I came
back. Thinking how quickly things change."

He took the seat next to her gladly, his head turned as he
listened to her words. Now that he had his form, he'd become
aware of personal boundaries again. He carefully remained in his
bubble of personal space, inviting touch if she wished it, yet
not moving into the role of pursuer. She'd already given up such
an enormous amount for him. He'd honestly waited for that
bitterness and fury to be turned on him as the target.
"Which change has darkened your eyes, sweet angel? This is more
than just mourning for that which was taken. Talk to me,
beautiful one." He told her softly, his eyes gentle and
understanding. He offered his hand for support if she wanted it.

Mika noticed the way he sat and gladly took he offered hand,
welcoming the comfort.. She leaned back slightly her wings
twitching slightly. "I knew that my choice would change
everything. I spent most of the time since I've been back
dealing with the change in my own way. I had to figure out how
to deal with my memories, and avoiding everyone." She looked at
the indent in her finger for a brief moment before looking back
at Hunter. "I know he no longer remembers me, but I didn't
expect him to go chasing down the nearest female." Her eyes
clouded a bit with anger and sadness.
She bit her lip lightly before trying to shake it off. "I'm
sorry, I don't mean to be so angry about it. I know it was my
choice, and the fact that you are here makes it worth it." She
sighed and leaned forward slightly. Just something inside her
kept telling her she wasn't that special, knowing Shinji was off
dating. She knew it was because of her choice, but still.
"I'm sorry I shall not dwell. It's very good to see you, and
not just in my dreams" She smiled softly at him.

Hunter very carefully tried to keep his own feelings on the
issue aside. Still, it was hard to figure what he saw in the
female he'd taken up with. To go from Mika...to that? Hunter had
a bit of a time understanding the boy. He chalked it up to
wayward hormones, and desperation. Possibly. Or perhaps he could
be that stupid.
"Little angel, it has nothing to do with you, and everything to
do with the fact that he has no idea what he lost. If he did, I
don't think he'd have taken up with the woman he has. She's
certainly not your calibur. But he's unlikely to find someone
who is. You're not very replaceable. And he's likely to be
trying to fill a very large void now." He reached his hand out,
resting it on her back, between her wings.
He moved up, throwing his caution and shyness to the winds that
blew around them. He hated seeing her doubt herself. He gathered
her back into his arms, as long as there seemed no hesitation or
resistance, cradling her. "Stop doubting yourself, now. None of
this speaks to any flaw or lack for you. It is just the nature
of Mnemosyne's price."

Mika leaned into his touch as he placed his hand on her back
instinctively. She let him pull her into his arms. She rested
her head on his shoulder closing her eyes for a moment. She
curled into him slightly. His words were comforting, and eased
her pain and anger some. His explanation made sense, but she
was more caught up in how he described her, it always made her
smile. She opened her eyes and looked into his, "Thank you
Hunter, you can always make me feel better. I'll try not to
doubt myself anymore."
It took a moment for it to sink in that she was in his arms
physically. She blushed lightly twisting the lock of hair
around her finger. When she had curled into his shoulder she
could feel his warmth, his life. He wasn't creating the
illusion for her, it was real. She smiled happy that she had
been able to do this for him. "I'm glad you're here." she said
quietly. Wanting to turn the talk away from her anger, she
leaned into his comforting arms, "How have you been Hunter?"

Much as he had been the first time that he'd had her in his arms
for an extended period of time, he became nearly entranced with
the feel of her skin, the texture of her hair, and the curvature
of her bones. Only it was moreso now, simply for being alive.
Being able to feel her when he never believed he'd actually get
the chance to. And so, his fingers traced her cheekbone as she
snuggled against his shoulder, moving in a sweep downward to her
jaw, he traced there, as well. It's obvious that, though his
attention is entirely caught by her skin, he still hears her and
can respond.
He kissed her forehead when she said she was glad he was here.
He'd been worried that she'd regret her decision. It was good to
know she didn't. His fingers combed through her hair, intent on
the texture of the strands. "I've been well enough the past
handful of days. I stayed inside, trying to get myself used to
being alive again. The needs of the body, the demands. They're
foreign to me, and I needed them not to be." He laughed softly,
mostly at himself. All the things that she took for granted, he
was having to accustom himself with all over again.
He touched his cheek to hers for a moment. Another sensation to
catalogue. "Tell me some of the things you think I should
experience now that I'm alive. I don't remember much of my
life." He told her, eyes intent on her expression.

She smiled as his fingers traced over her face. It was an
amazing thing to her, the warmth in that delicate touch. She
continued to let her head rest against his shoulder, taking him
in with as many senses as possible. She watched his face, his
eyes much as he watched her. For a brief moment she turned her
head just enough to take in his scent, before turning her it
back, looking up at him once more. She still felt so safe
cradled in his arms.
At the kiss on her forehead a light tinge of pink momentarily
flashing across her cheeks as she took in the feeling of his
lips against her skin. As his fingers combed through her hair,
her head moved lightly in an almost subtle feline movement,
moving ever so slightly into his hand. As he described what he
had been up too, she couldn't help but smile. His laugh made
her feel lighter, happy to see him laugh, even if it was at
himself. She listened wanting to memorize the tone of it. "I
never thought about how it would go getting used to being alive
again." She admitted sheepishly.
The light smile never left her lips as his cheek touched hers.
She thought lightly about what she should have him experience.
She bit her lower lip lightly as she thought, her hand resting
gently against her chin. She looked back into those deep green
eyes as she spoke entirely focused on him. "There are so many
things that I would suggest. A walk along the beach a night.
Watching the stars from the mountain top." As she thought about
them, they seemed almost trivial things to do, but they were
always things that brought her joy. "You should definitely have
a good home cooked meal." She nibbled her lip lightly, as she
thought about the possibility of cooking one for him.

She pushed her head into his hand. It was subtle, but the man
had become used to subtleties in his life as a wraith. That
didn't change now. He let his long, elegant fingers sift further
through her hair to comb over her scalp soothingly. Tangles are
carefully and patiently worked out, no tugging or pain. Being
close to the living without being one of them had taught him the
value of beautiful things.
And the meaning behind what was true beauty.
"Walking on the beach in moonlight, stars from a mountain top.
I've never seen or done either of these things, little angel.
Would you like to be my guide? Show me things you think I should
experience?" The suggestion of a home cooked meal made his
stomach rumble, surprising another quiet chuckle from him. "I
think my appetite agrees with the last. Though I've little
experience cooking. I never got to try it." There's a wistful
tone in his voice. His age may have numbered two decades, but
he'd missed or didn't remember many of the experiences that time
should have gifted him.
He watched her nibble her lip, one of his eyebrows arching
lightly. He knew that expression. "What seems to be on your
mind, sweet angel? If it's something I can give you, I'll try."
He said softly, his fingers shaping over the rather delicate
curve of her head and neck. Those hands were an artist's hands,
or a musician's hands. Nimble of finger, long in the palm, but a
man's strength and size. And they still held her with both care
and strength. She wasn't fragile, delicate. But she was
precious.
