He reverted to his own form, then smiled. He knew this game very
well. He shifted into a beagle, sniffing for her scent.
"Ely, we both know you always win this game. But, not today." He
       said, sitting on his hindquarters.

Okay, the beagle was fairly adorable. But her scent was nowhere
to be found. No one was better at hiding that than Ely was. If
you didn't have muscle to toss around, it was better that they
didn't find you. Though she was tempted to get him to bay like
the hound he'd taken the form of. That would just be far too
       cute.
Still unseen to the eye, she moved upwind, and let her scent
float to the scenthound. Beagle instincts. Bark treed. Then she
scampered, turning her scent back off. Yep, cute.

Gregor ran after the scent, only to find nothing. He whined
slightly, sniffing around, looking for his lost mate.

Her heart might have melted slightly at the whine. The wolf
inside her recognized that sound. She took the form of a fox,
silver and brown fur the autumn colors. And then she played
fair. She pounced on him, yes. But she let him find her and
chase her, the fox to his hound. The humor amused her.

"You always win, that's not fair." He joked, licking her face.
He reverted back to his own form and started to climb one of the
       trees on the trail.

She licked him in return, coming to her own form chuckling. She
watched him be a hairless monkey, as she would have put it out
loud. "Sugar, I should win at Hide-and-Seek. I'm a No Moon.
Finding people, and making sure people don't find me keeps me
alive. Don't have the brawn, I got the brains." She said
teasingly. She kept the more serious thought to herself, but it
made the smile fade some. Had to be good enough to beat the
noses of everyone, especially men. Hide-n-Seek is different when
it's you being held as the prize. She'd never realized how
different the Full Moons that she loved were from the rest,
until neither were in a position to help.

Gregor saw the smile fade from her face, and immediately jumped
down from the tree. He looked at her with a frown.
"What's wrong?" He asked, sitting down near a tree and brought
her with him. He didn't like seeing her sad. In any form.

It was different to see his mate sad. It wasn't an emotion the
mischievious and playful No Moon experienced very often. She did
settle herself against her mate, and lean into him. "I had to
get good at Hide-and-Seek, sugar. I've always had a soft spot
for you Full Moons. You and Daddy are wonderful examples. But
not all the Full Moons are quite so shining." He knew his moon
was competitive and typically wanted what they desired.
"There wasn't any way for Daddy to save me, and you'd left. The
only thing he could do was give me the sort of game I could win.
Seven of them challenged him to take me as mate during the
years. He told them they had to find me and bring me back in
within two days. Then they could have me. Obviously, they didn't
manage it. But it was close. I suppose, I just wanted that back.
We used to play it all the time." She said softly. He'd be
angry, but he had to see. Had to know why she wasn't always the
same woman he'd known for so long.

Gregor sighed and leaned on her head.
"If I was there, they all would have ended up like Matthew.". He
said, kissing her cheek. He intertwined his fingers with hers,
       kissing her hand.

She refrained from saying the bitter thing she might have once.
But the thought still moved through her mind. But you weren't.
And as far as I knew, or anyone else had, you didn't want me.
So, I wasn't shielded by that. She could have told him that he'd
left her to the vultures that he'd kept at bay. But she didn't
want to fight, didn't want to argue.
She shifted the topic. "What did happen to Matthew? You were
friends for the longest time. Then I don't know what hit him.
He'd never been like that toward me before. I had no idea he
even wanted that." He had refused to tell her at the time. She
       hoped maybe he might now.
