       Surprise!!!! (10/23, closed, mid-day)
By: Gregor Nye Date: September 18, 2012, 2:41 pm

After meeting most of the teachers, Gregor walked into an empty
house. The key he was given had worked, so he opened the door
and walked in. It was spacious.. Well, it was damn near empty,
except for a couch, kitchen, and bedroom. He was tired, so he
dropped his bag and shifted into a wolf, after circling a few
times, he laid his head down and drifted into a very, very,
       light sleep.

Soon, not long after he'd drifted off, one very clever No Moon
sniffed about the house. A midnight furred wolf, golden eyes
aglow, she followed a scent here. A tracker, a seeker by nature,
Elyana would know that scent anywhere.
An open window afforded her just the chance she required. Taking
the form of a smaller raven, she fluttered into the house,
landing in the bathtub in absolute silence. Bird became woman in
the melting of feathers back to golden Slavic skin. The high
cheekbones, dusky skin, piercing gold eyes and curling gypsy
hair spoke heavily of her clan and lineage. To those who knew
       what to look for.
She stood straight, padding silently from the bathroom, cat
footed and absolutely silent. She does not mask her scent. It's
a rainwater fresh sort, yet the spice of sandelwood and woodsy
tone of cedar mix in with it. Rain might be her clan's scent,
but Elyana always had her own.

The scent. He'd know that scent. Anywhere. His head sprang up,
sniffing around. He had turned back into his own form now. His
golden hair was blocking his face. He followed it to the
kitchen, where he finds her. He pushes his hair to a ponytail
and chuckles a bit, smiling brightly. His voice was butter, his
       accent even more so.
"Out of all people, I didn't think I'd find my best friend
snooping about in the kitchen." He said, standing against a
counter. "It's been far too long, Elyana"

The woman stood in black slacks and a white lace top. Peaks at
the golden skin beneath the lace could be seen, but it remained
fairly proper. She drank from a glass, the water crisp and cold.
"I wasn't snooping about. If I had been, you never would have
seen me." She told him, making a face. She tossed her dark head,
setting the now empty glass in the sink.
One of her brows raised. "Best friend? Last time I saw you, that
was certainly not what you were calling me. If I remember
correctly, I was 'useless, irritating, plain and simpleminded.'"
She retorted, a mimicry of his accent lacing her voice. It was a
fairly good shot at it, considering her own voice had a slight
       southern accent, via Louisiana.
Her golden eyes had narrowed slightly. She wasn't an overly tall
woman, only about 5'6. Built curvy and svelte, rather than
delicate and slender. But it doesn't take a genius to figure out
that she was likely still hurt from those words and spoiling for
       another argument.

He shook his head and took a deep sigh. "I'm sorry about that,
but I had reason. I was leaving, and I didn't want you missing
out on something because of my being gone. Now, I think would be
       a good time to tell
you exactly why I left. I left because someone was threatening
to kill me, and those I cared for. You were going to be a main
target. Now, I know, that the threat was the beginning of the
shift murders. I've been tracking down
the one who threatened me; threatened you. I haven't found him
yet, and I came across this island. Seems the
perfect place, seeing as everyone here has a power of some sort.
I wasn't trying to make you hate me, I was
trying to protect you." He said, looking her in the eye the
whole speech. He wasn't about to let this chance fly out of the
       window.

It was a step that she listened to him, and chose not to ignore
what he was trying to say to her. She listened, her eyes still
narrowed. As he reached the end of his tale, she gave a sigh.
She leaned her hands against the counter. "Goddammit, Gregor. I
would have preferred you just tell me about all this. I..." She
gave a growl, very lupine, as she turned to face him, her golden
eyes snapping. She came toward him, rapping her fist against his
       chest.
"I'm damn tired of all of you being overpotective, and figuring
I don't need to know these things. You protected me, by trying
to make me hate you. You hurt me, damn you." Her fist rapped
against his chest again, though this is more from her own
frustration than anything else. "I didn't want to hate you, and
I didn't want to believe that you'd hurt me that way. But you
did. All to save me. I was going to miss you, no matter. But I
didn't want that anger there, as well." Elyana's voice dropped
       low with those last words.
Just as quickly as she'd struck at him, she instead came to her
toes, her arms going around him. The tell tale scent of salt,
and a quiet little sniffle told the rest of the story.

Instinctively, as always, his arms wrapped around her waist, and
he sighed into her neck. He knew that he had hurt her, and he
ran his hands up and down her back, like he always did when she
       cried.
"I never got to say that I was sorry. Sorry for making you hate
me, sorry for hurting you. I could have told you, but I chose
not to of my own accord. I know how you can be, and I didn't
want you hurt. You know I hate seeing you hurt." He gave a soft
purr. The one he always used to try and divert her emotions.
       "I'm sorry, Elyana"

She turned her nose into his neck, the sense oriented creature
that she was wanting to have more of that familiar scent. After
a bit, her eyes stopped their tearing, that purr and his arms
clearing them away. She had a bit of trouble believing that she
was standing here with him. Let alone like this.
She pulled from his arms reluctantly, and yet part of her knew
she had to. That part kept telling her not to try and go back to
what they'd been. That girl felt like she was from a lifetime
ago. Choices made had changed them. And there was no going back.
She moved away, suddenly colder for the loss of his warmth. She
ignored it, hopping onto the counter. Her cinnamon colored nails
tapped lightly on the surface for a moment. "So, solving the
shifter murders brought you here, too? The Council gathered and
they decided to send me to figure them out. Seems every clan but
mine has lost people. Some of them even feared that you..." She
swallowed audibly, not caring to say the rest of the words out
loud. That had been a quiet driving fear.

He stepped next to her, placing his hand on hers.
"I couldn't die. If I did, they would come after you. That was a
drive for me. Stay alive, so my best friend can too. I came to
this island, because of all of the disturbances. Crazy things
have happened here. Even heard that two of the students are gods
or something like that. What brings you to this island?"

She flipped her hand to be palm to palm with Gregor's, the one
exception for herself. Her feet kicked slightly, her brow
creasing. That he'd be so set on protecting her created it's own
flutter in her stomach. In a movement of habit from years ago,
she leaned forward, kissing his forehead.
"Four, possibly five shifters have died here, three of them were
wolves like us, from two other clans. One of them was the
daughter of the Alpha. The Council convened, and I'm the most
respected of the No Moons. So, I had rights to investigate. I
also got asked personally by the Alpha. I had my own reasons for
accepting, but that's why I'm here." She said softly. Her
reasons were him, definitely. But she didn't need to say that.
"Your reasons?" She asked. She'd have to watch and not slip into
the old habit of shorthand that they had. Too much like the
       past, that way.
