He was about to say something, buy the words were stuck in his
throat. He pulled back for a second, reaching I'm his pocket, he
felt the little black box inside of his jacket pocket, then
another flashback. She was already engaged. He hasn't remembered
that until now. He fumbled with it, making it fall out of his
pocket by mistake. He picked up the muddy box, slipping it back
into his pocket. His eyes shoot to hers, knowing that she saw
it. He cursed himself and shivered a bit.

The little goddess stared at the ground where the box had
dropped. The little patch of disturbed earth. It began to rain
in earnest, as her eyes closed and her face twisted into an
expression of pain. Her lips soundlessly formed one word again
and again. 'No, no, no, no, no...'
She shook her head, trying to get out of his arms. Fleet as a
gazelle, she turned, throwing herself at a dead run out of the
forest. Once more the animals made themselves known to the
spider, watching him.

Miles found himself alone. He sighed and crawled into a tree,
laying there, shivering. He looked up at the sky, tears freely
falling. She always left him. He was beginning to doubt if
anything was true. He always tried, and she always left. He
really was sick of hurting, and this was like a last stand. He
slipped out of the tree, due to it being wet, and hit the ground
with a thud. He had lost his last chance, and he wasn't chasing
anymore. Now, it seemed like everything that he did was a
mistake. He took the box out of his pocket and threw it, as hard
as he could. He sat on the ground, crying silently. It gave him
time to think. New resolve. He was done. With everything. He
stood up and walked to his dorm.
