This vision assumes that the main deficit of the constituent
process was the inability to incorporate these traditional
identities into the symbolic process of generating the new Magna
Carta. In particular, it would have been necessary to find a way
to present plurinationality within the framework of an inclusive
patriotic sense. This is certainly noticeable in some of the
most intemperate statements of some conventionalists and in some
performances.which, made from power, and no longer from
rebellion, seemed to be derogatory speeches towards people who
had traditional national identities.
There are also specific constitutional norms that could have
been drafted in a way to make equality more explicit within the
framework of diversity. For example, the borders of the justice
system and indigenous autonomies could have been made more
explicit. The difference between Rejection and Approval was
strongly accentuated in rural areas, which in turn tend to
concentrate the presence of traditional customs and identities.

the constitutional proposal as a threat
to patriotism, while the Approve campaign intensified the fears
generated by the ambiguity of the text on the matter. In
historical perspective, it is striking that Chilean
progressivism has ended up disengaging with the symbols of the
country, considering its long history of commitment to Chilean
identity. Already in 1939, the Popular Front of Pedro Aguirre
Cerda and Marmaduke Grove proposed to base its orientation on
"full knowledge of Chileanness to serve the interests of the
people.
