Everyone should watch this video, download Pawn, Pawncraft,
Reforgelite addons, and use it to evaluate ugprades.

The results page has a nice link to evaluating upgrades on
wowhead.

Even better, the guildox link. It evaluates trinkets including
procs. It also accounts for upgrade levels....VERY AWESOME!

Ok so as per Marsui's request, I will try to ezplain how I
theory craft (or look like I do )
First think I do is to learn the mechanics of the class well and
figure out weight of each stat. Meaning , how much I need of a
certain stat to beat the other when I am choosing or reforging.
For example, if mastery is 2 haste is 1, i need at least 2 haste
to replace one mastery etc.
Usually there is a a bigger nerd who work out the math. My usual
places are
1)

2)

EJ website usually provides a simcraft output, for warlock you
can check it out from
HTML http://www.simulationcraft.org/510/Warlock.html
HTML http://www.simulationcraft.org/510/Warlock.html
Only thing you have to be careful is that, these calculations
are purely based on simcraft and Patchwerk style fights with
ideal rotation and buffs and will tell you things like "reforge
until haste break-point" (all caster break-points can be found
at
HTML http://www.totemspot.com/vb/entry.php?b=44
HTML http://www.totemspot.com/vb/entry.php?b=44).
Problem with that
is sometimes you will give up too much of other stats to get a
small or no benefit.
What I mean is if you look at demo warlock haste breakpoints, to
gain an extra corruption tick over a full duration, you have to
increase your haste from 1330 to 4717, a whooping 3387 haste!.
At lower item levels (unfortunately our levels) this haste comes
out of the expense of decreasing other stats by alot.
For example, if have a habit of re-appling the corruption before
spell completely ends (like me), you dont get almost no benefit
from this extra tick. I try to make logical decision based on my
play-style and only try to keep over 1330 haste instead of 4717.
My best friend to fiddle around the numbers is the
www.wowreforge.com
HTML http://www.wowreforge.com
very very useful tool.
So after this point only thing remains is to determine what is
the apparentweights for your current gear. Because so far we
used the weights based on BiS gear based on heroic gear.
However, effects likely to be small and the only way is to
change your reforging slightly and and run a simcraft.
Anyways, I probably come back and edit this and add stuff but
gotta go for now.
