Must I have extended shocks with paracolic springs?

       Dear Sirs
My beloved "Blackie" is a SIII 2.3D -83 with parabolic springs
and are about to get some new shocks all round.
Wish to retain the Parabolics but do NOT wish to put Pro Comp
       extended on.
Have measured the rear shocks to be 18 ½" (front is 15") long on
the vehicle from center to center bolts.
Seems to stand a tad higher, abt 1-2", compared by eyesight to
       my proper std SIIa -65.
Again, would very much put on std shocks but retain the
parabolic springs, is this possible or must I have extended? It
is a utility Landy so do not care abt crusing in a race car
manner at 50 mph, thinking of both ways damping and stuff - do
not care abt that, I just dont want the shocks to break ie when
       articulating.
To be clear, the Pro Comps came with the vehicle 2008ish and are
       not my cup of tea.
       Pic of the utilitarian Blackie below for reference;

I didn't bother to measure my shockers travel when i fitted my
       pair o'bollicks.
       - I've never had any problems even though they've had quite a
lot of abuse in the last 12 years or so.

I take it you have std length shocks?

You can fit 1 ton shocks - they are a little longer and not that
       expensive.
I think the problem with standard shocks is they can 'top out',
ie. be fully extended over undulations/bumps, causing internal
damage to the valve assembly - that's what I was told some years
       ago :-?
       Cheers,
       Robin.

       Hi, still at it.
Now the LHS rear shock has disitegrated but I don't notice any
       difference when driving...
However the MOT is coming up so have to do something.
Have decided to try out replacing the "racing" Procomp 3000 ext
ones for standard and see how it goes.
It is a utility Landy on the homestead and the Procomp fancy
stuff feels out of place to me.
I will take a chance on the the "Brit" and I will make sure the
axel strap lenght so it won't travel too far.
Will post when tested and tried.
       Keep on Rovering.

You don’t need longer ones on the front, as the extra ride
height is largely gained from the thinner spring pack, so the
bottom shock mount is pretty much in the same place as with
       standard springs.
At the back, longer ones are advisable, and on an 88” standard
1-ton front shocks are a cheap way of getting what you need.
