hi low lever on s2a jumps out of hi.

my 70 swb 2a has for many years a problem where the hi lo lever
jumps out of hi unless its held in hi with a hook that clips
into the bulkhead. whilst its held like this its fine but its a
faff if you have to disengage 4wd as i have had to a lot
recently in the snow. its not life and death but any ideas on
how to fix it would be great. i have heard it might be a broken
detent spring and if so how to fix it?. ita fine in lo by the
way. cheers.

Welcome to the forum dude, if you have thick matting in the
motor this can sometimes push the lever and cause it to slip out
of high.

There is a cover ontop of the transfer box the detent spring is
under there but the floor has to come up to access it.

Are you sure that it is not just the naff universal gaiter that
is stopping the lever going all the way forward?

thanks, the lever gaitor is missing and floor has no covering
which is why i wondered if it was the detent spring, i cant find
anything in the manual covering how to remove it
