Front end axle stand placement
By: kiwi s3 Date: December 13, 2017, 3:30 am

Hi everyone,
With all the warm and sunny weather we have been having in New
Zealand, I took the opportunity to get the front end of my 1978
SWB S3 up in the air to investigate why the steering is starting
to feel a little vague.
The first issue I had was where to place the axle stands. The
left side is easy as there is plenty of actual axle available on
the inside of the spring to place the stand. However I could
not do this on the right side as there is no level piece of axle
between the spring and the diff and no room between the spring
and the hub.
I ended up putting both stands under the spring plates, but the
flat plate held by the curved saddle of the jack did not seem to
be ideal.
Is there a better place to put them?
Cheers,
Mark
Wellington, NZ.

I generally put them under the spring plate, but with a suitable
block of wood on top of the stands.
