BIGGER intercooler ( 200tdi ) conversion ?
By: Cornish Rattler Date: September 30, 2017, 10:43 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys
whilst I am still at the ( manual ) rolling restoration stage of
the rebuild with 200tdi installed, 3.54 diffs fitted, recon'd
gearbox and up-rated T box plus o/d I am thinking of fitting an
up-rated intercooler as I am worried that with the higher
gearing I will loose a bit of get up and go and ability to climb
hills as well, the injection pump has been tweaked in the past
and I am fitting a 300tdi turbo and manifold.
The engine was originally fitted to a 90 I used to own as I
fitted a Disco engine into and kept this engine for the 2a
rebuild as it needed work to be done on it which has all been
done, so what do you think :smile1

I'd suggest you 1st have a drive with the standard set-up.
We are.
Tdi has more torque than the original engine.

I tried to keep my 200tdi conversion as Land Rover would have
wanted.
I broke a disgay, and used the rad, header tank, oil cooler, air
cooler, and diffs in the conversion.
The only non-standard bit I used is a boy racer cone air filter,
around £8 from the Bay.
I'm more than happy with the performance and acceleration.

Yeah my last tdi conversion I did a while back now had a Disco
200, Ashcroft transmission and o/d but used std diffs and it ran
great but the only problem I had was on a motorway cruising at
70 from 65 the engine would start to scream and think the extra
higher gearing would solve this more or less but with the extra
gearing I am also thinking it would be slower setting off and
possibly loose power on hills so thinking with a tweaked pump
plus an upgraded intercooler and aswell as a 300tdi turbo would
solve this problem.
I'm not trying to make it into a racing car but just trying to
keep it similar to what my last one was but without the engine
screaming to much I on a motorway :)

Oh, I forgot to add, I have an overdrive, which makes motorway
driving a little more pleasant.
But for long runs, I use ear defenders.

The trouble with ear Defs is you can't ear anything else around
you

without ear defenders all you can hear is the Land Rover and
nothing else :)

With ear defenders, and earbuds inside them playing loud music,
you can hear bugger all else! >Htlr<
Who wants to hear anything else whilst driving miles and miles
of motorway anyway? :smile1

Just realised there are two upgrade sizes one half the size
bigger than a std one and another that's double the size of a
std one, so I will go for the smaller one of the two and get
pleanty of intercooler hoses in
