Bearmach Zenith copy

I am still struggling with idling, I have to run slightly rich
to make it idle nicely. I have ruled out everything but the
carb now, so I suspect I have throttle spindle wear. I am
planning to get a Bearmach copy carb to keep me on the road
while I overhaul the genuine Zenith - anyone used one and have
any experience?

No experience of that carb, sorry. But leftfield, and I know
they're 'loadsa munny' but the best will always be an SU
conversion by ACR. I don't want to start some tedious carb
thread, and someone will tell you their (insert Carb name here)
etc etc is fine, but the ACR kit works like a dream and stays
like it. So easy to set-up and adjust.
So if you're feeling flush... don't mess. Do it properly.

Appreciate the advice fuckwit, but £750 is a bit steep for a
temporary carb - I only expect it to be on for a couple or three
weeks while I sort out the zenith.

Provided it's not temporary-permanent I shouldn't worry too
much. Just get to run, for messing more won't be worth the
effort.
With every tenth thread being on carbs it's clear the
combination of poor maintenance, age, wear and clueless
tinkerers, has few vehicles with A1 carburation. Good luck.
Yes, there's cheaper ways than an ACR kit.

It's my only vehicle just now so it's a case of keeping it
running while the Zenith gets stripped and made super-shiny.
Ideally I would buy a second hand genuine Zenith and get that
one up to snuff but they don't seem to be around.
Hopefully LR owners don't cock about with their carbs too much,
always think that's more of a Mini thing, the needle-filing and
pancake filter types...

Can't say I've tried the Bearmach one but I'd go for that out of
choice over Allmakes and Shitpart. I bought a new, genuine
Zenith for the 2A 109 15 or 16 years ago and have never had to
fiddle with it, been good as gold. I've got the ACR SU setup on
the 88 with their stage 2 head and exhaust manifold/silencer.
Picked it up as a job lot cheap a few years back. It's not been
without it's issues, and ACR haven't been much cop on the
support front.

For fear of a thread hijack, Noel, I've got your set-up, a BLOS
as well, even down to your Rover SD1 intake trick. Put a Joker
advance unit on it and run CNG, sadly without your penchant for
bus parts (but I'm working on it) but aside from that, I
blatantly ripped you off! Mine runs a treat.

My issues really have been limited to running on petrol. Needle
and jet related, black smoke and misfiring initially. In the end
I found some gen on the net and sourced replacements as never
got replies to e-mails. The other thing I enquired about was a
replacement for the barbed pipe that carries the coolant through
the inlet manifold, mine's pretty rotten. Should have been
stainless I'd have thought. Again, no reply. On gas it's been
fine.
