Confused: So why four outlets (and five?) on a 109 rear mount t
       ank?

My 109 has a leaking rear-mount tank. Got to be replaced,
Craddocks were cheaper than eBay, so £100 odd sobs it is...

This is the petrol version Part 599233

This is the Die-sel or Stagey version Part 599234
I can jsut about get sight of the top of the tank in mine (no
access panel for some reason). Appears I have (excluding
big-bore fill-tube) but including the pipe coming out of the
sender unit, 5 pipe outlets in total.
       I'm guessing:
       1) Balance tube No.1
       2) Balance tube No.2
       3) To engine
       4) Not a clue - Swirl-pot Return?
       5) Not a clue?
I'm confused? Now 2.5 petrol, I think my 109 was deseasel
powered in the past, so I can account for 2 or 3. And I could
see why I might need more if I had military long-range tanks
under my seating up front (only I don't) but I still have five
bits of rubber pipe leavign my rear tank.
       My question:
       1) What to we need even 4 pipes for?
       2) And why does a diseasel or a Stagey need even more?
       3) What could 5 pipes all be doing?

1 air vent to filler neck
2 connect to 3 to balance tank contents
4 small pipe would be spill back return from filter, diesel
5 would be feed or suction pipe incorperated in gauge unit
note diesel and petrol tank gauge are different, diesel has low
       warning lamp terminal
some diesel have feed and return pipes in gauge unit to confuse
       the issue

Ah, that's making more sense. Thanks But I'm still a bit
perplexed. I assume you're putting pipe 5 on the gauge
sender-unit. And thus there's variants here...
       1. Air Vent to filler Neck - I now see on the parts book.
       2. Balance pipe A
       3. Balance pipe B
       4. Spill-back/Return Deisel (and I assume accounts for the
Stagey having a Diesel spec tank uses extra pipe for swirl-pot
       return.)
       5. (i) Petrol: Gauge sender-unit.Would be a feed
       5. (ii) Die-sel: Gauge sender-unit. Would be a suction.
       5. (iii) Die-sel: Gauge sender-unit return - I assume when this
is fitted there will be no Pipe 4 or have we gained a total of
       six?
So there's twin-pipe Gauge sender-units out there too?

petrol is normaly suction on all but an injection engine most
V8s were carbs hence no need for a swirl pot and pump in tank,
which in any case were never fitted to the tank(s) in your
pictures as the gauge/ suction pipe hole is too small
