About to use the chain Tensioner "upgrade"

I'm about to install the new style chain tensioner on my 2.25
petrol series 3.
Has anyone any experience with these?
Having a really hard time finding the check ball and spring for
the original one.

Yep
On the 2.5
Seems OK BUT...check out the timing chain it uses. IIRC it is
slightly shorter and a different part number.
I have never tried using the chain from the older type
gear/spring type tensioner with the newer type - anyway I guess
if you are in the timing chest you ought to be fitting a new
chain?

This tensioner came with a new shorter chain as a kit. I'm not
sure what to do about the little red tab, is that to be removed
after install?

Yes, I've fitted one of these to a 2.5 petrol. The red tab stops
the tensioner plunger from parting company with the rest of it,
it's only held in place by the pressure of the chain.
