       Military 109 spring hangers

Are 109 Military dumb irons and rear spring hangers available
anywhere? I want to put Mil 109 dumb irons and outboard rear
spring hangers on the SIII I'm rebuilding, but not able find
them anywhere. Of course it's probably me not looking in the
right place though! Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
       Cheers, Allen

Can't help you with where to get them from, but you might find
it a bit tricky to do the front mounts for the rear springs
outboard. The 109" chassis has them mounted on an outrigger, and
the main chassis rail kicks up behind this point. On the 88" it
kicks up between the back of the seatbox and the front of the
spring, so the same outrigger/hanger wouldn't fit anyway.
There used to be a chap on here (Nitemare I think) who had an ex
New Zealand army 88" with extended spring hangars fitted as
standard... Might be worth a trawl in the archives?

       Hi Abosely,
       Why?
I think that fitting the extended dumb-irons will increase the
castor angle, making the steering heavier, all else being equal.
I don't know if it will be enough to notice. I don't know if/how
Land Rover compensated at the other end of the front springs
       (longer swinging shackles?)
Moving the rear springs further apart will reduce the
       articulation (for the same load).
Heavy duty rear axles are what is says on the box ... bloody
heavy, and all that extra weight is "unsprung".
But, no doubt, you have your reasons.

602 - Yes, extended spring hangers have matching extended
shackles. The weight of the steering between 109s in civvy spec
and military dropped hanger 'combat chassis' spec is the same.
At least I can't tell any difference.
Allen - I've never seen the extended spring hanger chassis parts
available anywhere as yet as repair sections. Out of interest
what are you trying to achieve with the mod - fit a Salisbury in
the rear, lift for bigger tyres etc?

surprisingly and unusually I'm on the web tonight trawling
through stuff and visited this site (I have no internet at home
nowadays) so I've messaged the OP with a link to my PB album of
Chalkie, I doubt he'll find much help in that though
his better option would be to register on the AULRO forum and
see what information he can glean from there as to the
       construction
I've done nothing with Chalkie apart from getting him moving
around my yard under his own power, I really must make an effort
to sort my work space out and get on with him

       Hi,
Richards make replica chassis ... I assume for the full range of
Series models. Including military with extended dumb-irons?
Richards sell chassis repair sections .....
It might be worth an email.

       Since when?
       Hi NoelC
       Try this ...
  HTML http://www.series2club.co.uk/forum/forum/index.php/topic,89382.0.html
However, I don't know if they still sell sections. Their website
does not mention sections for Series ... but there is a picture
of an extended dumb-iron with two positions for the spring-eye
       bolts.
All you can do is ask.

That link won't work for me as I'm not on the S2C forum. The
reason I questioned is Richards used to have on their website a
clear statement that they only sold complete chassis not repair
sections. As you say, no harm in asking. It would be nice if
they did, I could do with a pair of rear spring hanger
outriggers for my 2B forward control.

Weve put mil rear shackles on swb motors in the past to lift the
back a bit or help old saggy springs .
If you want the extended front malarkey you'll have to find a
scrap military 109 chassis and do some cut and shut.
Any military shit like the spring hangers, you probably have to
get your arsehole reamed on eBay if you wish to buy, or you may
get lucky at a sodbury sort out type of 4x4 autojumble
