Gearbox front input shaft - How much lateral movement should the

Hi All,
I am in the midst of gearbox rebuild on my series 3 (Suffix B
box) and so far most things have been in good order. I have
removed the oil seal cover from within the bell housing that
covers the end of the layshaft and input shaft and can move the
input shaft approx 1mm up or down at the free end. Is this
normal or should I be replacing the bearing in the bell housing
please?
Thanks

I'd replace bearings as a matter of course if rebuilding.
