Temperature gauge troubles

Hello together,
during troubleshooting for a defective fuel indication on my
sereis 3 diesel I found out that the voltage stabilizer was
inoperative and one of the previous owner connected the wires
directly to the gauges. In this configuration the fuel indicator
was not working (a long time nearly full and
than very fast to zero) the temperature gauge was fine. I´ve
installed a new stabilizer (10 Volts output ok) but the problem
now turns vice versa.
The fuel indication is fine but the temperature always deflects
to maximum. Replacement of the temperature sensor (just a cheap
replacement part) was without success?

Hi there in Bavaria,
My Series 3 Petrol, has exactly the same problem. I have tried 3
different temp senders, and replaced the stabilizer twice, but
still not fixed it.
Might try swapping the temp guage next. Keep us updated if you
sort it!

Hello together,
I found some interesting details about the temperature
monitoring system in a German LR Forum:
-Resistance directly at the gauge 63 Ohms
-Resistance directly at the sensor (cold) 280 Ohms
Hope this dates can help others to fix some temperature issues.

Does the temperature gauge drop when you disconnect the sender?
It should. If it does, then the fault is with the sender. If it
doesn't, then the fault is a short to ground somewhere in the
wiring between the back of the gauge and the sender.
