       Australian import?

       Sometime in the mid 1980s a neighbour owned a fairly new 88
       petrol hardtop Series 3. He told me it was imported new from
       Australia by Landrover during a period when output from Lode
       Lane could not keep up with demand for new vehicles. I didn't
       argue with him even though the story sounded far fetched, but
       have always wondered if it was true. Can anyone shed any light?

       Hi,
       What are the first four numbers in the chassis number? That will
       identify the year Or more precisely two years that it was made
       (production was from September to September) and other stuff,
       including if it was sent overseas.
