s3 with Sherpa engine...loss of power
By: 982knn Date: August 19, 2016, 1:47 pm

Good evening all
I've got a 2.5 Shilpa engine in my s3, which was running fine,
but now can't pull the skin of rice pudding.
Got me a bit foxed TBH.
Anyone around Leeds (LS16) who could have a look at it with me
for some bacon butties/tea or limited beer tokens.
Vehicle cant be driven at moment as it;s out of MOT, but the
engine does start and run OK...just can't got above about 30mph
on even flat roads. Doesnt seem to be reving ...
Im thinking fuel starvation, but fuel filters clean and alls
pumping...
Mark

Generic thing but of the older type buses we have in at work
suffering poor performance probably 50% have suffered an issue
with the throttle cable/linkage etc being misadjusted or having
moved. It's worth checking that first with an assistant to push
the pedal. I had it on a 2.25 petrol where the accelerator pedal
itself was slightly loose on the cross shaft and has moved,
hitting the footwell at about half throttle.

Cheers Noel
Checked that, it's fine also done the throttle by hand from in
engine bay.
Basically max revs acheived at about 1/4 throttle.

Right update
Pulled all the inlet side of injection pump fuel feed apart.
Confirmed electric lift pump pumping and giving decent flow.
Fuel passing through filter assembly OK
Fuel is being pumped under pressure to injectors (slackening
individually causes engine to falter/stall)
Took inlet connection out of fuel pump and removed filter
cartridge and bypass assembly. Filter was dirty so cleaned.
Decided to put back together without the spring component
assemblie as it ran better without.
All back together and seems to be running smoother and a few
more revs, but still no more power.
Managed just under 30mph.
Wot next??

Whats the pick up in the tank like? Worth checking its clean,
not sure if there is a gauze or strainer in there? If your
filter was dirty then it has to have come from somewhere.
Pump timing gone out?
