       Hi,
If you buy generic brake drums, you will be sent S3 drums. These
have holes for 16mm (5/8") studs., but as location is on a hub
spigot, there isn't a problem. They will also only have a hole
for one countersunk screw. Again not a problem ... I have often
run without any of these screws.
The splined pull through studs really need a 9/16" drill run
through the hub ... slowly. Try very hard to ensure it goes
through square, best if you have a bench drill.
You will probably be OK with one stud at a slight angle, but two
or more might cause problems. Studs are cheap. Nuts are cheap.
Buy single ended nuts. Buy a few extra, sacrifice a couple
pulling the studs through. The studs have a flange to stop them
pulling right through, but as your hubs are not recessed on the
back, they will not pull through as far as they should, so studs
will look short ... hence why you want the thinner single ended
       nuts.
Ideally, you want S3 hubs with the bigger splined studs. But
that means you need bearings as well, if buying new. S2 drums
will need drilling for S3 studs, and you will need a 1.1/16"
       spanner.
