       Tappety engine

I adjusted the tappets on my 2.25 petrol, and re-checked them.
And now it sounds a little tappety.
The gap should be 010 of an inch when cold right? It does say
that in top of the engine.
Having said that, it still pulls really well..

this happened to mine, and it still taps
one suggestion was that the rocker tips were warn (to the shape
of the valve tip) so when you stick a feeler gauge in you are
averaging the damage out and ending up with a bigger gap than
       the feeler guage.
       solutions
close the gap up deliberately (tough i know as we dont know
which one is tapping without some diagnosis)
set clearances using dial test indicator instead
set clearances using "click adjust" tappet tool
       new rocker fingers

You can polish the faces of the rockers flat again with wet and
dry paper on a flat surface like a sheet of glass. This was a
common practice on A series engines and relies on the fact that
the worn surface will be well work hardened and will last for
       some time.
It is also possible for the rocker shaft to be worn into grooves
       as well.
You say that the engine became tappety after adjustment so I
assume it was OK before? Otherwise it can be work cam followers
and tappets down in the engine block (these can make a real
       racket when very worn).

It was ok before I think. Don't think it seems worse but defo a
little tap tap is included in the 2.25's symphony. I'll get my
mechanic mate to have a look at it.
Click adjust tappet tools look good - though a slight investment
       at 40 odd beans...
