Indicator stalk angle

Hi everyone,
Over the weekend I finally got around to tidying up some wiring
issues on my S3 that have been bugging me since I bought it 2
years ago. The headlight contacts on the column switch had
failed so one of the POs had hacked into the wiring and added a
S2 floor mounted dip switch. The horn also had additional
wiring spliced in to it, along with numerous other random
connectors.
I took out all the additional cables and connectors and fitted a
new Lucas indicator / light / horn switch. I'm very pleased to
be able to say that everything electrical worked first time.
But there is a problem - the stalk is angled back towards the
dash so much that I can't reach it with my fingers without
taking my hand off the wheel. In fact on main beam, the stalk
is touching the wiper switch and I can't indicate right on full
beam!

I can't see that there is any adjustment on the angle of the
stalk. Is this a duff one, or do they need bending to the right
shape?
Cheers,

i had that issue when i bought a new genuine lucas stalk. the
stalk is/was common to allot of bmc and leyland cars, just like
allot of the lucas switch gear, so i assume they consolidated
some part numbers a little too far !
anyway, all i did was clamp the stalk in a vice as close to the
root of switch as possible, then tweaked in favourable direction

Thanks chaps,
I took the switch out and put it in the vice. As I started to
bend the stalk, it rotated in the switch body. I kept pulling
until it was about 45 degrees anti-clockwise from where it
started. This roughly matches the angle of the old one and it
now works fine.
