I'm sorry, I can't offer you any advice about fitting a seat,
- But hearty congratulations to you both, on the birth of your
sprog!

Congratulations!
I don't see why it can't be done with a static seatbelt,
provided it is long enough, but it will be a bit of a ballache
and you may find the adjusting buckles on the belt end up in the
wrong place and interfere with the seat itself. It might be
worth looking at one of the bases that can be installed (and
remains) on the vehicle seat using the seatbelt, which the child
seat then clips into. Fortunately I have reels, which are much
easier for this it must be said, but some seats (like the
Silvercross one as I found out) are rather large and are quite a
stretch to get the belt around.
Also, and I know this picture is a 3, you may find there's not a
great deal of space to get it in:

i agree, adjust the belt length until its just too short to
reach the hasp, then force the belt into the hasp using the
compressiveness of the seat base/back padding for the extra
distance. will be snug as anything

^^^ what he said.
I adjust the belt so it's just too short, then get in the car,
knee in the kiddy seat and push it into the seat until the belt
clicks. Bit awkward, but I'm convinced it's more secure than it
is in the freelander with its retractable belts.

thanks all :)
was looking into installing isofix rings/loops and buy a base
havent yet tried pushing it int to seat to fix the seatbelt but
that surely is the cheapest option... but also as the saying
goes 'never wake a sleeping baby' which will be hard while
pushing the baby seat int the landrover..

The recoiling belts in my s3 aren't long enough to go round the
back of the seat as in Dougs picture. They weren't even long
enough to go round the pregnant missus!! Am gonna buy some
debender ones as I suspect these might fit the bill nicely.

I kind of like the idea of this, particularly as you can buy
complete isofix bars / brackets that means you'd just have to
work out a way of bolting it in with spreader plates (or even
picking up to the chassis like late Series 3 seatbelt
mountings). There are writeups out there where people have done
just that in order to retrofit isofix into camper vans and the
like.
...IIRC there was also one floating about where a chap bent up
some studding to form loops and bolted it all into a Series 1...

I vaguely remember a post which suggested the use of isofix
seats and brackets attached to the seat bulkhead, was planning
on doing it with mine but my daughter bought ordinary seats so I
didn't get around to it.
I think Doug is correct about the post on here. I think there
was a kit of suitable brackets available to retrofit to a focus,
wasn't to pricey either.

i have a S3, use a ISO fix bracket off Ebay, bolted behind
middle seat with seat folded down. works well, only problem now
is @2.5 my daughter can kick gear stick out of gear.
