Replacement quarter chassis.

Hi,
My rear cross member will need a fair bit of patching and a
bit near the rear spring hangers. I'm contemplating fitting a
quarter chassis .
The Landy is complete with body on.
My question , is it possible to weld the top section of the
chassis rail to attach the repair panel with the body on? Its a
SWB. thanks.

I have seen it done by cutting 2 bits out of the floor to weld
the top of the chassis but it would be just as easy to remove
the whole floor in my mind but would take much longer.

Probably easier to remove the rear tub than take the floor out

Just depends on the welder...
Some people bent the rod a lot and weld like that the top, some
people cut holes, sometake the floor out and some remove the
tub.
We have big underfloor storage boxes that we take out when the
need for that welding was there..

if the rear floor is going a bit chalky it might pay to do them
both in one

If you take the floor out, before you do,abandon any hope of
putting the same one back
As has been said, if the floor is getting chalky ,replace at
same time.
It'll give better welding access and you get to look/clean/
protect the cross pieces at the same time.
After that done thoroughly you can forget a big chunk for quite
a while! :-?

Thanks for the replies. I don't fancy cutting the floor out. I
will try the "bend the rod" technique and see how it goes.

You dont need to cut the floor out just drill the pop rivets out
and it lifts out.

Mine was spot welded in, dozens of the buggers. Made a right
mess drilling that lot out.
Wish mine had pop rivets. :smiley-furious:

I must of been lucky then, I replaced my floor with 2mm Zintech
sheeting which is much more heavy duty.
