       Dashcam

       Hello All
Just a general question. Has anyone fitted or used a dashcam?
Having had an idiot pull out in front of me the other day, and
me hitting the back of them. I wondered about getting one.
Fortunately minimal damage to Misty. I had chance to hit the
brakes. The other driver didn't stop long enough for me to get
       his details.

Yes. Based on my experience of operating a bus fleet and the
chance of being to defend a claim about nil without CCTV.
With dashcams you gets what you pays for. I tried a couple of
cheapies and settled on the Roadhawk HD. This has the benefit of
supporting SDXC cards, the cheaper ones only support SDHC (max
32Gb) and that gets used very quickly. The other cam I've looked
at is the Silent Witness SW012 as that has in inbuilt rear
       facing camera too.
Since having cameras I've had two incidents where muppets have
lane changed into me and the camera has proved categorically the
other SH><. :wanker: has been at fault. I'd never drive
       anything without one.

I have one a Transcend drive pro 200, it is a good bit of kit. I
had somebody go in the back of me when stationary in traffic,
although it didn't film the accident (as it is front facing) it
proved I was stationary and that didn't "roll back into the
vehicle behind me". I commute across Salisbury plain daily and
the windy roads encourage a lot of "do or die" overtaking moves
from certain drivers, I had to take avoiding action when a BMW
pulled in front of me so decided that it was a worthwhile
       investment.

Thanks for the info. Without asking a stupid question. How do
they fit to the window or dash. And how does the split screen
affect the view of the camera. Thanks

I bought an extra suction bracket for mine so I can move it
between vehicles. I haven't actually tried it in the landy yet
as it hasn't been in one piece since I bought the dashcam. As
part of the rebuild I am going to fit a cigarette Lighter to
power it. In the daily car I mount it behind the mirror so I
don't see it but it is still close enough to press the button,
but the centr bar would be in the way so mount it to the left of
       it.
Incidentally it saw some action on Saturday when the car in
front of me went in the back of the car in front of them.
Looking at the footage it there is a possibility he is a victim
of a "crash for cash" scam as there was no reason for them to
stop so suddenly have offered the footage to both parties.

Here's a 1 minute clip from my Roadhawk HD to give an idea of
the view from a series. There are the options of self adhesive
and suction mounts, this is one of the self adhesive mounts.
I've stuck it to the passenger side windscreen (this is a left
hooker) although with a bit of creativity you could fold a piece
of metal, bolt it to the roof gutter and mount it slightly
higher up to give a better view over the spare wheel.
