3 Year Rebuild almost Finished…. Almost
       By: MIKEYT88 Date: March 9, 2016, 5:10 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Well after 3 years in April and introducing myself on here over
2 years ago, My Landy Refurb / Rebuild is almost done.
Thought I should check in and say hi, apologise for absence and
       post some pics.
Quick Story so far. bought a very late 84 S3, after 6 months of
running and needing to use my old army gortex to stay dry while
driving I decided to probe into her (christened Pandorra during
rebuild), the footwells, windscreen sections of bulkhead and
chassis dumb irons and outriggers completely rotten. I was lucky
that my cousin had a s3 bulkhead and chassis he bought from a
guy who had abandoned this project because of divorce.
So I scraped my old 84 Chassis and have attempted to build this
old 72 that's not been on road since late 80's, using whats left
       over from mine.
been a proper bare bones cheap re build... if theres such a
       thing.
started with a russet brown window sided safari door, Now after
changing my mind and changing much, ive got a Pastel Green, Van
Sided, Tailgate and Cat Flap Configuration
Little fitted, very rough round the edges but if she, starts
stops and runs and passes an MOT, that's all I need.

Very nice. If you have done that cheap well done because it
looks great. Is it a 72 then or did you stick with the 84.

       thanks blenky,
its a 72 the 84 chassis was scrapped unfortunately. the 72 was a
chassis, bulkhead, axles & Diffs, front wings. everything else
was sourced from the scrapped 84. so its a 72 with 5 bearing
2.25d and dual power stop breaks. the van sides and roof with
cat flap brackets I got for £10 !! and all nuts and bolts have
been replaced with mass stainless steel were HT steel ones are
not needed. worked out hundreds of pounds cheaper to just by
bags of m4,5,6,8 nuts and bolts than individual from certain
known suppliers. Everything is original except fixings, just
taken a long time to clean strip and paint everything. I think
so far everything, full rebuild has cost me £2000 including
original 84 and the 72 to start with.
Got to diesel priming and bleeding stage, which is proving to be
a nightmare, I will be posting a help for advice else where.

Amazing effort. If you have a problem priming it and its been
sat empty/dry for a while try gently tapping the injector pump
with a little toffee hammer while you turn it over. I had a
series 3 that wouldn't prime and someone told me about that
       trick and it worked.

       hi Blenky
thanks again, though the bleeding and getting fuel to pipes and
injectors has been a long long road that's still isn't
       happening.
I will have to try tapping it while turning it over, it may
help, ive assumed its okay as on the bench if i inject diesel
into intake and spin the base by hand it slowly builds up and
then spits fuel a few feet out of the ports. I assume this means
its kind of working, however its not doing it when fitted either
on the button or by hand. very very strange.

Been a bit of a struggle but getting there, almost done.
not sure if I can post a vid, but will try of her first start
       up.
Got her going at last, (HP) high pressure side of the pump was
failing for some reason not doing its job, so I managed to get a
second hand pump and take off what I needed and rebuild one good
one from two. so far just trying to find that sweet spot timing
       wise.
Brakes and Clutch to sort out and we are good to go...... Le
Mans 2016 her we come !!!
