Put Overdrive ,in "Search". Number 22 will give you an idea bud.
It can be a bit of a poser.
Overdrives are getting silly dear, Ashcroft solution is cheaper
but more of a faff! :-?

Well, there's the thing - I have a perfectly good overdrive but
with the money they're going for I could flog it, buy the
Ashcroft kit, and still have change for a set of rear
pair-o'-bollocks...!

You could always try driving around with the OD permanently
engaged; if you and your vehicle can live with the increase in
gearing then why not?
For me, I'd miss the ability to use 3rd + OD up steep hills on
fast roads where 4th is too high and 3rd makes my ears bleed
from the high revving (for those that know it, something like
Birdlip Hill is what I'm talking about).

^^^ exactly what Doug said. I've got overdrives on all of mine.
Would I want them engaged permanently? No. Absolutely not. When
I've forgotten and left them in it's not pleasant. Even in the
88 with 2.5 petrol, stage 2 head etc etc.

Keep the o/d bud, big regrets could in front of you if you sell.
If you had to buy a solution ,then yes, Ashcroft,as you have an
o/d ,keep hold. IMHO. :smilewide:

Well you've all kinda confirmed what I was thinking - I do think
I'd miss the flexibility! And Doug_T - I know Birdlip Hill,
you're a brave man doing that in a Series!! :-D

The secret is to knock it out of OD while still on the flat at
the bottom, foot to the floor in 4th past that first little
lump, then a huge double declutch and gearstick dance to get 3rd
+ OD, foot to the floor to the top and hope there are enough
gaps to let you pull out past the slow moving wagons.
Oh and I also find a Stage 2 head and SU carb helps (and
switching from LPG to petrol for the climb).

i find the issue with mine is that first is very low geared
(suffix C thing) and theres cavern between 3rd and 4th.
the above would not change with an ashcroft box, which
effectively is just increasing the final drive.
