       Zenith 36 IV
By: Parn Date: February 29, 2016, 3:03 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
About 18 months ago "Noel C" of this parish recommended I ditch
the Weber I had on my 2.25 and go back to the Zenith.
Well I finally got around to re-bushing the Zenith body and
putting a kit through it (nothing happens in a hurry down here).
I have reinstalled the Zenith and taken it for a run.
WOW the difference is amazing. :giddy:
The Series 3 has a "new lease on life" and is pulling like a
       train.
I will have to learn to accept advise more readily.
       Thank you Noel
       Cheers
       Alan

You have to trust the designers and developers at Rover. They
were paid a lot of money and knew what they were doing.
Everything on the engine was for a good reason. It was built to
work as designed! Deviation from standard may sometimes be an
improvement with modern knowledge, eg electronic ignition, but
       often has an unexpected compromise.

       a good result.
a quick search reveals you swapped it for a zenith back in 2013
and it still ran like crap. call me extreme if you like, but
maybe there was a genuine fault with the weber carb too?

 Pleased you had a good result Alan. On the upside, I
have found a use for the Weber 34ICH. A bookend. Sadly they're
not heavy enough to make a decent door stop. rofl

Well the whole story is in Aug 2013 with a number of "like
minded fools" crossed the Simpson Desert in about a dozen series
       Land Rovers.
Mine was 41years old at the time and was one of the younger
       ones.
The Zenith which was fitted at the time started misbehaving
about half way across. The engine wouldn't idle and was behaving
       like it had a vacuum
leak. The Zenith was stripped and reassembled several times but
the problem kept reoccurring. We also had a couple of warm days
(temperatures in the mid 30 degrees C) which caused some fuel
vaporisation problems. The only cure was to pour water on the
mechanical fuel pump prior to attempting to climb a sand dune.
The fuel problems persisted all the way home.
When I got home I took the Zenith off, put the Weber on, and
replaced the mechanical pump with an electric one from a six
       cylinder.
       The problems all went away.
Recently I got enthusiastic and re-bushed the Zenith and put it
together with a new carby kit.
       Hence the above result.
As I said should have done it earlier.
       Cheers
       Alan

ah ok, i must have interpreted it wrong
[quote author=Parn]I have replaced the Webber with a Zenith 361V
which I have put a kit through and "flattened" all the mating
       surfaces....
...The problem it is not as bad as it was BUT it is still
starving for fuel at the top end of the "rev-range" immediatelty
       after a "hot start".

As an aside to all this my youngest son accompanied me on the
"Simpson Tip" (he was 32 at the time).
His first comment when I picked from the airport was "I thought
we were going in one of the boingies not this old thing".
By the time we got home at the end of the trip he was totally
smitten and now owns 2 series vehicles (and a boingy).
I am now accused of infecting him with the Land Rover disease.
