Although I always left mine in and pumped at half speed, I don't
see any reason why it can't simply be removed if it's a pain for
you. I mean, UK petrol pumps do not dispense sand, algae or any
of the other shite the filters were meant to catch when filling
up from cans in the middle of Africa! :smilewide:

the mesh is quite big, i dont think it counts as a filter,
unless for bumblebees.
maybe its a "flow straightener" for fuel, to slow down filling
on purpose

What's the hurry in filling it up. Leave the extension where it
is and fill at half speed. It's there for filling with Jerry
Cans, where sometimes there can be crud in the can. However, If
you are desperate enough to save a few seconds, then lift out
the extension, as you have done already and fill at full speed.
Life on earth is short, so don't rush around.
