Lean mix at high revs again.

Ok, so my butterfly spindle fix didn't last and I went back to
the britpart carb as a temporary thing to keep her running.
Meanwhile I set about rebuilding the zenith carb after buying a
new bottom body and rebuild kit for it. I was meticulous about
it,spending several evenings making sure everything was bang on.
So I put it back together and on the car, and now find that I
once again have to have the choke out for it to pull. She is
smoother than ever and has loads of pull about her, but only
with the choke out.
What could have gone wrong? Is it possible she needs different
sized jet somewhere?
She will idle nicely without choke, but then hesitated and
kangaroos around as soon as you apply any right foot.

I had something very similar in my S3, did the whole rejetting
and lapping carb faces thing etc - all of which made some
difference - but evenutally traced it to a split in the
breather hose from the rocker cover!! Replaced that and bingo,
no more coughing and kangarooing when pulling away

She is too old for that. Engine breathes to atmosphere through a
filter. There is nothing like that on the intake.
I may have sorted it now, I went through it again this evening
and the enrichment jet in the rebuild kit was much smaller than
the original. Only took her for a short drive so far but I was
able to drive without the choke on. I will know for sure after
I've driven her to work in the morning.

Well she is better, but still needs a small amount of choke to
pull properly and smoothly through the rev range.
At this stage I am tempted to make an adaptor and stick some
SU's on her. I have a nice mached set of HS4's sat on the
workshop shelf. If she wasn't such an unmolested vehicle then I
would, but I want to keep her original as best I can.
I'm at a loss as to what to try now. Maybe I should try altering
the float height a little. Higher fuel level = richer mix I
would guess.
