First time Land rover owner saying hi!
I bought my 1963 Pickup last fall. The Landy has started out as
a fireengine by carmichael but has has all its
firefighting"stuff" taken away along time ago. Basically a 1
private owner car(1980-2015) after its fireengine days. No Mot
since 2004, but i managed to get it passed after going thru the
brakes and adjusting a wheelbearing + other smaller stuff.
Must say was quit excited to be able to fix stuff i had newer
       attempted on another car!

       Very nice
If you are not used to doing that sort of thing, you will find
series ownership a very pleasing education in 'fixing stuff'.
Mechanically simple with fairly good access to most components
and a basic electrical system - most issues can be fixed to a
high standard using a box of tools that can still be lifted in
       one hand :)
(The ruinously expensive workshop and Big Red Toolbox comes
later, after getting addicted to fixing things and realising
that even contemplating paying somebody else to conduct repairs
on your behalf gives you a headache.)
Glad your are enjoying ownership, hope you continue to do so!

Welcome Martin! Lovely looking motor you have there - and may I
also say what a beautiful country you live in! My wife & I spent
a week at Basecamp Oulanka last February, and what an amazing
time we had!! We'll definitely be visiting again (who knows,
maybe I'll drive in my S3...!!)

Thanks guys! looks to be a ton of good information here. I think
i finally managed to figure out my thermostat issue, old
original one is stuck open (bellows type) and as the replacement
is a waxtype, the top housing needs to be changed as well even
thou it looks like the "newer" type. Land Rover really was not
big on standardisation in the 60's.
Anyone know of a shop selling top housings?
       -Martin
