It's definitely a petrol exhaust (or at least, I definitely
ordered one!) and yes I did find that lifting the passenger
wheel helped (the rear's on ramps so I only jacked the front up
long enough to sweep the exhausts under the wheel!!) I think I'm
gonna have to send it back, you can see here how different it is
at the front:

You may have ordered a petrol front pipe, but that's not what
you've got. The exit from the diesel manifold is both higher and
further forward than the petrol one, which accounts for the
difference in the downpipes.

bosal, in my experience, are also terrible quality. so it makes
perfect sense for BP to use them as supplier

Thanks all for the advice, I'm in touch with Paddocks now about
swapping. For now I can at least just pop the old one back on as
it's not in bad nick!

Top marks for identifications skills chap, I sent them the photo
too and that's their conclusion. And that's my 'something new'
learned for today!

Just to close this one off.... Paddocks sent a replacement out
on Thursday, which arrived on Friday (the postage and collection
cost for the old one must've been more than the part is worth!!)
and I fitted it yesterday. Apart from needing to reuse part of
one of the hanging brackets it's all good! So no bending
required after all. Good job you lot are here to advise on this
stuff, thanks! :-)
